Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,594 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 533 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at ENAL Ålesund Airport, Vigra, taking 11 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. Departure roll took place on runway 24, with a takeoff distance of 1,017 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 164 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 14°C temperature and a wind speed of 24 knots at 219 degrees. The crosswind was 10 knots, while the headwind was 22 knots. The enroute climb started approximately 1 mile southwest of ENAL Ålesund Airport, Vigra, and involved a vertical ascent from 1,038 feet above sea level to 5,770 feet above sea level, an increase of 4,732 feet in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered 8 nautical miles, starting approximately 3 miles northwest of Brandal. However, this was short-lived, as the aircraft began another climb phase approximately 1 mile east of Alesund, this time ascending from 5,889 feet above sea level to 24,926 feet above sea level, an increase of 19,037 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 123 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it began a descent phase approximately 7 miles southeast of EN21 Wadahl Wadahl, descending from 25,040 feet above sea level to 10,419 feet above sea level, a decrease of 14,621 feet in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 48 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, lasting 3 minutes and covering 13 nautical miles, starting approximately 5 miles northeast of Lena.
However, this cruise phase was also short-lived, as the aircraft began another descent phase approximately 2 miles southwest of Eina, descending from 10,424 feet above sea level to 1,957 feet above sea level, a decrease of 8,467 feet in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 26 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 19R at ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen, was made from the north, heading 196.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,278 feet above ground level. The landing took place on the runway, with a total landing distance of 1,031 meters, accounting for 29% of the runway. The touchdown point was 115 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 129 knots, which was slightly faster than the recommended speed. The touchdown rate was good at -187 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 12°C temperature and a wind speed of 12 knots at 210 degrees, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 12 knots. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 3 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 234 nautical miles, taking 53 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,389 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 19R at ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen, with a score of 99.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 196.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,278 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, which is a crucial aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was within the acceptable range at 135 knots. However, the touchdown speed of 129 knots was slightly faster than ideal, which may have resulted in a slightly longer landing distance. The touchdown rate of -187 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating a controlled descent.
The landing distance of 1,031 meters, which accounts for 29% of the runway length, was within the acceptable range. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 12°C and a headwind of 12 knots at 210°, were favorable for the landing.
The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, which made the landing even more manageable. The total landing distance was within the acceptable range, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot's skills and experience were evident in the execution of the maneuver.
