Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 11,780 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 641 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 35L at Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport, with a takeoff distance of 3,435 feet, which was 26% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 153 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 47°F and a wind speed of 14 knots from a direction of 340°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 13 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport at Colombier-Saugnieu, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France. The climb took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 53 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 1,801 feet above sea level to 22,654 feet above sea level, an increase of 20,853 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which started 2 miles northwest of Salornay-sur-Guye, Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, France. This cruise phase lasted for 47 minutes and covered a distance of 306 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 2 miles northwest of Icklesham, East Sussex, England. The descent took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 31 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 22,536 feet above sea level to 6,665 feet above sea level, a decrease of 15,871 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started overhead Biggin Hill, Greater London, England. This cruise phase lasted for 5 minutes and covered a distance of 22 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, which started overhead Ottershaw, Surrey, England. The descent took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 7 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 6,553 feet above sea level to 1,419 feet above sea level, a decrease of 5,134 feet.
The final approach to runway 09L at London Heathrow Airport was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 90° at an altitude of 1,326 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 09L, which had a length of 11,780 feet. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 131 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 641 feet, and the touchdown speed was 127 knots, which was also good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -206 feet per minute.
The total landing distance was 2,912 feet, which was 25% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 427 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 97 minutes. The aircraft used 8,305 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed on runway 09L at London Heathrow Airport (EGLL) with a high level of precision. The final approach was initiated from the west, heading 90.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,326 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a steady course, and the pilot executed a smooth touchdown on the runway.
The landing performance was impressive, with a threshold speed of 131 knots, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown distance of 641 feet was also satisfactory, indicating that the pilot had sufficient control over the aircraft's descent. The touchdown speed of 127 knots was also within the acceptable range, further emphasizing the pilot's skill and experience.
However, the touchdown rate of -206 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the pilot could have maintained a more gradual descent. Nevertheless, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot had successfully aligned the aircraft with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were moderate, with a temperature of 44°F and a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 40°. The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots. Despite these conditions, the pilot successfully managed the aircraft's approach and landing, demonstrating a high level of skill and expertise.
The total landing distance of 2,912 feet was only 25% of the runway length, indicating that the pilot had successfully controlled the aircraft's descent and rollout. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, further emphasizing the pilot's skill and experience. Overall, the landing was a success, with the pilot executing a smooth and controlled touchdown on the runway.
