Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,859 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 656 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 23 at EDHI Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,332 meters, which accounted for 72% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 160 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 3 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 14 knots at 280 degrees. The crosswind component was 11 knots, while the headwind component was 9 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead EDHI Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,021 feet above sea level to 5,595 feet above sea level, an increase of 4,573 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then began 2 miles north-east of Moisburg, lasting 6 minutes and covering 25 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 1 mile south of Kasseburg, where the aircraft descended from 5,312 feet above sea level to 3,078 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,234 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then resumed overhead Siek, lasting 6 minutes and covering 13 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23 at EDHI Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport was made from the north-east, with a heading of 232.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,282 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 23, which had a length of 1,859 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 137 knots. The touchdown point was 235 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 128 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -235 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.6 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 10 knots at 280 degrees. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots. The total landing distance was 1,203 meters, which accounted for 65% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The final stage of the flight involved taxiing to the parking from the runway, which took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 58 nautical miles, taking 30 minutes, and the aircraft used 1,055 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport, achieving a score of 95.3%. The final approach to runway 23 was initiated from the north east, with a heading of 232.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,282 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was characterized by a good threshold height, indicating that the pilots maintained a safe altitude prior to touchdown.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 137 knots, which was within the acceptable threshold speed range. The touchdown point was located 235 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight overextension of the landing distance. However, the touchdown speed of 128 knots was considered good, suggesting that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the landing phase.
The touchdown rate of -235 feet per minute (fpm) was deemed fair, indicating that the aircraft's descent was not as smooth as desired. Nevertheless, the runway touchdown position was only slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.6 meters, which is a relatively minor deviation.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 0°C, with a wind speed of 10 knots from a direction of 280°. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots. These conditions may have contributed to the slight overextension of the landing distance.
The total landing distance of 1,203 meters was 65% of the available runway length, which is a relatively high percentage. However, the runway rollout alignment was considered very good, indicating that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and avoided any significant deviations from the centerline.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 95.3%. While there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters, the pilots demonstrated good control and judgment during the approach and landing phases.
