Shorten the long landing
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,763 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 374 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in the Cessna 172SP began at KVNY Van Nuys, where the taxi from the parking area to the runway took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nm. The departure roll was from runway 16R, with a takeoff distance of 623 meters, which accounted for 31% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 70 knots. The local weather at the time of departure was 15°C with a wind of 3 knots at 269°, resulting in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 0 knots.
The enroute climb began 1 mile north of Encino (California, United States), where the aircraft climbed from 1,732 ft above sea level to 1,965 ft, an increase of 233 ft in less than 1 minute. The distance covered during this climb was less than 1 nm. The enroute level cruise phase started 1 mile west of Van Nuys and lasted 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nm.
The landing took place on runway 08 at KBUR Bob Hope, which has a length of 1,763 meters. The height at the runway threshold was 62 ft above ground level, and the speed at the threshold was 80 knots. The touchdown occurred 374 meters from the threshold at a speed of 71 knots. The Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI) at touchdown was -285 ft/m. The local weather at the time of landing was 16°C with a wind of 3 knots at 270°, resulting in a tailwind of 3 knots and no crosswind. The total landing distance was 781 meters, which accounted for 44% of the runway.
After landing, the taxi from the runway to the parking area took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nm. The total flight distance was 8 nm, and the flight duration was 9 minutes. During the flight, 2 kg of fuel was consumed.
