Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,987 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 743 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDDS Stuttgart Airport, a process that took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 25, with a takeoff distance of 1,429 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 165 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 260 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead EDDS Stuttgart Airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 2,322 feet above sea level to 18,737 feet above sea level, an increase of 16,416 feet in just 8 minutes, covering a distance of 35 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise phase began 1 mile west of Aalen, Germany, and lasted for 2 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 11 nautical miles.
The enroute descent phase started 1 mile south of Bopfingen, Germany, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 19,059 feet above sea level to 2,792 feet above sea level, a decrease of 16,267 feet in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 60 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 08R at EDDM Munich Airport was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 83.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,302 feet above ground level, 4 nautical miles from the runway.
However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around at an altitude of 558 feet above ground level due to unknown reasons. The aircraft then landed on runway 08R at EDDM Munich Airport, with a runway length of 3,987 meters. The threshold height at 79 feet above ground level was well above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 141 knots. The touchdown point was 325 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 134 knots, with a touchdown rate of -235 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 1 degree Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 180 degrees, with a crosswind of 6 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot. The total landing distance was 1,359 meters, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The total flight distance was 121 nautical miles, and the flight took 51 minutes to complete, using 1,985 kilograms of fuel. The taxiing from the runway to the parking area took 7 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 08R at EDDM Munich Airport, achieving an overall score of 88.1%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 83.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,302 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed safely on the designated runway.
Upon landing, the threshold height was found to be well above the target, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal landing height. However, the threshold speed was satisfactory at 141 knots, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain a stable approach speed. The touchdown point was located 325 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation from the ideal landing spot.
The touchdown speed of 134 knots was slightly faster than the desired speed, which may have contributed to a slightly higher touchdown rate of -235 feet per minute (fpm). Nevertheless, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 1°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 180°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the tailwind component was a relatively minor 1 knot. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing, and the aircraft was able to maintain control throughout the approach and landing phases.
The total landing distance was 1,359 meters, which corresponds to 34% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to decelerate efficiently after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the post-landing phase.
Overall, the landing was executed with a high degree of precision and control, and the aircraft was able to safely touch down on the runway. While there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters, the pilot's skills and the aircraft's performance were sufficient to ensure a safe and successful landing.
