Keep the approach speed on target
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
At the 500 ft gate: no landing flap set.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,614 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 687 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Cessna 152 departed MDST Cibao International Airport's runway 11, utilizing 407 meters, or 16% of the available runway length, to achieve liftoff at a speed of 62 knots. The local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a gentle wind of 1 knot from 270 degrees, resulting in a negligible crosswind component. The aircraft's performance was satisfactory, with a smooth departure roll and a steady climb.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand traffic pattern, it maintained a consistent speed and altitude, navigating the various phases of the approach with ease. The downwind turn, base leg turn, and final turn were all executed with precision, with the aircraft maintaining a stable heading and altitude throughout. The final approach was initiated from a distance of 1 nautical mile from the runway, at an altitude of 549 feet above ground level, and a heading of 103.0 degrees. The aircraft's speed and altitude were well-managed, allowing for a smooth touchdown on the runway.
The landing was executed with a touchdown speed of 58 knots, which was slightly above the recommended threshold speed. However, the touchdown rate of -45 feet per minute was perfect, indicating a well-controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was also very good, with the aircraft touching down 244 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The total flight distance was 10 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 2 kilograms of fuel, with a total flight time of 6 minutes. The local weather conditions remained consistent throughout the flight, with a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a gentle wind of 1 knot from 270 degrees.
The final approach to runway 11 at MDST Cibao International Airport from the west was initiated at a heading of 103.0°, 1 nm from the threshold and at an altitude of 549 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was excessively high at 87 kt, indicating a potential for a long rollout.
The aircraft touched down 244 m beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 58 kt, which was also excessively fast. Despite the high touchdown speed, the touchdown rate was perfect at -45 fpm, indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 16 °C and a light wind of 1 kt at 270°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and a slight tailwind of 1 kt.
The overall performance of the landing was satisfactory, with a score of 79.9%. While there were some areas for improvement, such as the high threshold speed and touchdown speed, the controlled descent and good runway alignment were notable positives. The aircraft's ability to maintain a perfect touchdown rate despite the high touchdown speed was a testament to the pilot's skill and control.
