Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,995 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,517 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Punta Cana International Airport, the Boeing 737-MAX8 began its journey with a taxiing period of 7 minutes, covering 2 nautical miles to reach the runway. At 08, the aircraft took off, utilizing 5,499 feet of the 9,992-foot runway, which accounted for 54% of its length. The takeoff speed of 162 knots was achieved, and the aircraft lifted off into the local weather conditions of 85°F and a 4-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed to 10,845 feet above sea level, it covered 14 nautical miles in 3 minutes, increasing its altitude by 9,769 feet. The enroute level cruise phase started 6 miles south of the airport, lasting 2 minutes and covering 9 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 11,000 feet to 34,001 feet, an increase of 23,000 feet in 14 minutes, covering 99 nautical miles. The flight continued with multiple level cruise phases, including a 36-minute period overhead Pimentel, covering 267 nautical miles. The aircraft also underwent several climbs and descents, including a final climb to 35,991 feet before beginning its descent into Orlando Sanford International Airport.
The final approach to runway 09L at KSFB was initiated from the west, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 90.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,228 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with the touchdown point 151 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed of 138 knots was good, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The total landing distance was 4,348 feet, accounting for 44% of the runway length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 4 minutes to cover 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,003 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 159 minutes and fuel consumption of 12,872 pounds.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 touched down on runway 09L at KSFB Orlando Sanford International Airport with a score of 99.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 90.0° at 4 nm and 1,228 ft above ground level. The final approach was characterized by good quality, with a smooth descent and a stable airspeed. The threshold height was well-managed, and the threshold speed was achieved at 146 kt, indicating a well-executed flare.
The touchdown point was 151 ft beyond the touchdown zone, which, although not ideal, was still within acceptable limits. The touchdown speed of 138 kt was good, indicating a controlled descent. However, the touchdown rate of -210 fpm was fair, suggesting a slightly higher-than-desired rate of descent. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating a high degree of precision and control during the landing. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 72 °F and a light headwind of 2 kt, contributed to a relatively straightforward landing.
The total landing distance of 4,348 ft was 44% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration after touchdown. Overall, the landing was well-executed, with the pilot demonstrating good control and precision throughout the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
