Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,546 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,546 ft of the 10,197 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,029 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A330-900 taxied from the parking area to runway 22R at EKCH Copenhagen Kastrup Airport in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 22R, the aircraft used 4,007 ft of runway, representing 41 % of the available length, and lifted off at 171 kt. Ambient conditions were 72 °F with a wind of 2 kt from 120°, a cross-wind component of 1 kt and no head-wind.
Climb commenced 2 mi south of Tarnby, Denmark, with the aircraft ascending from 999 ft asl to 37,448 ft asl, a gain of 36,449 ft achieved in 25 minutes while covering 173 nm.
The first level cruise began 2 mi north of Nordholz, Germany, and persisted for 259 minutes, during which 1,820 nm were flown.
Descent started 66 mi northwest of El Cotillo, Canary Islands, with the aircraft descending from 38,002 ft asl to 5,126 ft asl, a loss of 32,876 ft in 20 minutes over a distance of 118 nm.
A brief cruise segment was initiated 23 mi southeast of GCLP Gran Canaria Airport, lasting 3 minutes and covering 13 nm.
The second descent began 14 mi southeast of GCLB El Berriel Aeroc Airport, bringing the aircraft down from 4,453 ft asl to 1,413 ft asl, a reduction of 3,040 ft in 6 minutes across 18 nm.
Final approach to runway 03L at GCLP Gran Canaria Airport was conducted from the south, on a heading of 22.0° at 4 nm and 1,353 ft agl.
Landing on runway 03L, which is 10,197 ft long, occurred with a threshold speed of 150 kt. Touchdown was recorded 670 ft beyond the touchdown zone at 143 kt, with a vertical speed of minus 246 fpm and very good alignment. Local weather reported a temperature of 87 °F, wind 12 kt from 29°, a cross-wind component of 2 kt and a head-wind component of 12 kt. The total landing distance measured 5,287 ft, equivalent to 52 % of the runway, and rollout alignment was perfect.
The aircraft rolled out along the runway with perfect alignment before taxied back to the parking area, a maneuver that took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 2,149 nm, required 327 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 62,311 lb of fuel.
The final approach to runway 03L at GCLP Gran Canaria Airport was flown from the south on a heading of 22.0 ° at 4 nm and 1,353 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits. Ambient temperature was 87 °F, wind was 12 kt from 29 °, giving a 12 kt headwind and 2 kt crosswind component.
At threshold the height was reported as good and the threshold speed was well above target at 150 kt. The aircraft crossed the runway threshold with the indicated speed, confirming the elevated speed condition observed during the flare.
Touchdown occurred 670 ft beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 143 kt that was a little fast. The vertical speed at touchdown was fair at minus 246 fpm and runway touchdown alignment was very good. Total landing distance measured 5,287 ft, representing 52 % of the 10,197 ft runway length.
Rollout alignment was perfect, with the aircraft remaining centered on the runway centreline throughout the deceleration phase.
To refine future performances, reduce the approach and touchdown speeds to meet the target values, which will also help achieve a touchdown point nearer the intended aim point. Maintaining the current alignment standards will preserve the high overall score of 98.0 %.
