MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,303 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 266 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by Vueling, with the aircraft registration EC-MGZ. The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 24R at Palma de Mallorca Airport (LEPA), with a takeoff distance of 1,569 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway.
During takeoff, the aircraft reached a liftoff speed of 157 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 20°C, with a wind speed of 7 knots at 230°. The crosswind component was minimal, at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 7 knots.
After takeoff, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile west of Palma de Mallorca Airport. The climb phase involved an increase in altitude from 1,045 feet above sea level to 36,471 feet above sea level, a total increase of 35,426 feet, over a distance of 105 nautical miles, and took 19 minutes to complete.
The enroute level cruise phase began 20 miles east of Javea, Spain, and lasted for 31 minutes, covering a distance of 204 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent, which began 1 mile south-west of Beas de Guadix, Spain. The descent phase involved a decrease in altitude from 36,351 feet above sea level to 26,736 feet above sea level, a total decrease of 9,615 feet, over a distance of 33 nautical miles, and took 5 minutes to complete.
The enroute level cruise phase was repeated several times, with the aircraft cruising at different altitudes and locations. The final descent phase began 4 miles north-west of Totalan, Spain, and involved a decrease in altitude from 26,650 feet above sea level to 5,015 feet above sea level, a total decrease of 21,635 feet, over a distance of 58 nautical miles, and took 13 minutes to complete.
The final approach to runway 20 at Jerez Airport (LEJR) was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 201.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,292 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 20, which had a length of 2,303 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 136 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 266 meters, and the touchdown speed was 134 knots, which was also good. However, the touchdown rate was very hard, at -562 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.1 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14°C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at 270°.
The total landing distance was 974 meters, which accounted for 42% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.8 meters from the centreline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 6 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
Overall, the flight had a total distance of 458 nautical miles, took 97 minutes to complete, and used 3,450 kilograms of fuel.
Aircraft Vueling EC-MGZ successfully landed at LEJR Jerez Airport, with a final approach from the north. The aircraft was at an altitude of 1,292 feet above ground level (agl) and 4 nautical miles from the runway when it began its descent. The pilot maintained a heading of 201.0°, which is aligned with the runway, and executed a smooth landing on runway 20.
The landing was deemed good in terms of threshold height and speed. The threshold speed, which is the speed at which the aircraft touches down on the runway, was 136 knots, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown distance, which is the distance between the point where the aircraft touches down and the beginning of the runway, was also good at 266 meters. Furthermore, the touchdown speed of 134 knots was within the acceptable range.
However, the landing was not without some issues. The touchdown rate, which is the rate at which the aircraft descends onto the runway, was very hard at -562 feet per minute (fpm). This is a concern as a hard touchdown can put excessive stress on the aircraft's landing gear and potentially cause damage. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.1 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the hard touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 14°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from 270°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions were not particularly challenging, and the pilot should have been able to maintain control of the aircraft.
The total landing distance, which is the distance between the point where the aircraft touches down and the end of the runway, was 974 meters, which is 42% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop quickly. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.8 meters from the centerline, which may have been a result of the hard touchdown.
Overall, the landing was deemed good in terms of threshold height and speed, but was marred by a hard touchdown and some misalignment issues. The pilot should review the flight data to identify the causes of the hard touchdown and take corrective action to prevent it from happening in the future.
