Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,405 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 382 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Changsha Huanghua International Airport, taking 14 minutes and covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 36, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 1,526 meters, which was 48% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 169 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 18°C temperature and a wind speed of 0 knots at 340 degrees. The enroute climb started 1 mile north of the airport and took 20 minutes to reach a height of 35,123 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 138 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, which lasted for 33 minutes and covered 284 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 17 miles east of Nanjing Lukou International Airport and took 18 minutes to descend from 34,726 feet to 1,143 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 94 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 18 at Xingdong Airport was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 178.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,119 feet above ground level.
The landing took place on runway 18, which had a length of 2,405 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was 135 knots. The touchdown distance was 380 meters, and the touchdown speed was 129 knots, both of which were considered good. However, the touchdown rate was very hard at -567 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.7 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 6°C temperature and a wind speed of 9 knots at 119 degrees. The crosswind was 7 knots, and the headwind was 5 knots. The total landing distance was 1,321 meters, which was 55% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 22.3 meters from the centreline. Taxiing to the parking area from the runway took less than 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 525 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 82 minutes. The aircraft used 282 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at ZSNT Xingdong, achieving an overall score of 86.9%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 178.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,119 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, touching down on runway 18, which has a length of 2,405 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 135 knots, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown distance of 380 meters was also within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 129 knots was slightly below the expected value, which may have contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -567 feet per minute (fpm). This high touchdown rate could potentially cause discomfort for passengers and may require further investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The landing was further complicated by the local weather conditions, with a temperature of 6°C and wind speeds of 9 knots at 119°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots. Despite these challenging conditions, the pilot managed to maintain control of the aircraft and execute a safe landing.
However, there were some areas for improvement. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.7 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the subsequent rollout alignment issues. The total landing distance of 1,321 meters was 55% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. Nevertheless, the rollout alignment was misaligned by 22.3 meters from the centerline, indicating a potential issue with the aircraft's directional control during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was satisfactory, but there are areas for improvement, particularly in terms of touchdown rate and rollout alignment. Further analysis and training may be necessary to address these issues and ensure that the pilot can execute a safe and efficient landing in a variety of weather conditions.
