Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,114 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 187 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight was conducted in an Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen aircraft, a lightweight and versatile plane. The taxiing process from the parking area to the runway took less than a minute and covered a distance of less than a nautical mile. The departure roll began on runway 25 at EGNT Newcastle Airport, and the takeoff distance was a mere 65 meters, which is just 3% of the runway's total length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 35 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of the flight were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a gentle wind blowing at 2 knots from a direction of 270 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots. The pilot navigated the aircraft through a left-hand pattern entry from runway 25, covering a distance of less than a nautical mile in just 20 seconds.
As the aircraft continued through the pattern, it encountered a crosswind from runway 25, which it navigated in 24 seconds. The pilot then executed a pattern downwind turn, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile at an angle of 93.8 degrees to the runway. The downwind leg itself was 2 nautical miles long and took 69 seconds to complete.
The pilot then initiated a base leg turn, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles at an angle of 34.0 degrees to the runway. The base leg itself was less than 1 nautical mile long and took 37 seconds to complete. The final turn was executed in 28 seconds, and the aircraft began its final approach to runway 25 from the north-east, heading 247.0 degrees at an altitude of 401 feet above ground level and a distance of 1 nautical mile from the runway.
The landing was executed smoothly, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 23 knots and a distance of 185 meters. The touchdown rate was an excellent -75 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions remained the same, with a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a gentle wind blowing at 2 knots from a direction of 270 degrees.
The total flight distance was 7 nautical miles, and the flight took approximately 6 minutes to complete. The aircraft used a mere 1 kilogram of fuel during the flight, demonstrating its exceptional efficiency. Overall, the flight was a testament to the Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen's capabilities and the pilot's skill and expertise.
The Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen successfully landed at EGNT Newcastle Airport, showcasing its capabilities as a pioneering aircraft. The final approach to runway 25 was initiated from the north east, with the aircraft heading 247.0° at a distance of 1 nautical mile and an altitude of 401 feet above ground level (agl). This precise approach was a testament to the pilot's skill and the aircraft's handling characteristics.
Upon landing, the Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen demonstrated excellent performance, touching down on the runway with a speed of 23 knots. This speed was well within the acceptable threshold, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown distance of 185 meters was also impressive, showcasing the aircraft's ability to land efficiently and effectively.
The landing was further enhanced by the aircraft's excellent touchdown rate of -75 feet per minute (fpm), which is a significant achievement considering the runway's length of 2,114 meters. This rate suggests that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of landing smoothly, minimizing the risk of damage to the aircraft and its occupants.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a gentle wind of 2 knots at 270°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 2 knots, providing a stable and predictable environment for the landing. The runway touchdown alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
Overall, the Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen's landing at EGNT Newcastle Airport was a success, demonstrating its capabilities as a pioneering aircraft. The pilot's skill and the aircraft's handling characteristics were on full display, making this landing a notable achievement in the world of aviation.
