Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,715 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 606 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LPPT Humberto Delgado Airport, also known as Lisbon Portela Airport. This process took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 20, with a takeoff distance of 2,588 meters, which is 83% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 161 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 15°C temperature and a wind speed of 9 knots at 210 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 9 knots. After departing from Lisbon, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead Alvalade, a location in the Distrito de Lisboa, Portugal. The climb took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 120 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 1,266 feet above sea level to 33,064 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,799 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 12 miles south of Albufeira, a location in the Distrito de Faro, Portugal. This phase lasted for 18 minutes and covered a distance of 139 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 57 miles northwest of Bouznika, a location in Casablanca-Settat, Morocco. The descent took 20 minutes and covered a distance of 115 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 33,058 feet above sea level to 1,953 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,105 feet.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its final approach to runway 35L at GMMN Mohammed V International Airport. The approach was made from the south, with a heading of 344.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,296 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on runway 35L, which has a length of 3,715 meters. The threshold height at 84 feet above ground level was significantly above the target, while the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 146 knots.
The touchdown point was 184 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 142 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -376 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 13°C temperature and a wind speed of 5 knots at 30 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 3 knots.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 384 nautical miles, which was covered in 72 minutes. The aircraft used 2,526 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at GMMN Mohammed V International Airport, achieving an overall score of 85.5%. The final approach to runway 35L was initiated from the south, with a heading of 344.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,296 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with the touchdown point located 184 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone. The touchdown speed of 142 knots was slightly above the target speed, indicating that the pilot may have been able to reduce the speed further during the approach. The touchdown rate of -376 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 13°C, with a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 30°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions were relatively calm, which likely contributed to the successful landing.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
The total landing distance of 1,328 meters was 36% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop quickly and efficiently, despite the slightly fast touchdown speed. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft during the approach and landing phases.
