Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,040 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 168 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KBIL Billings Logan International Airport. This process took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 28R, and the takeoff distance was 1,465 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 151 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and winds of 11 knots at 320 degrees. The crosswind was 5 knots, and the headwind was 10 knots. After departing from KBIL, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and continued to an altitude of 36,879 feet above sea level. This climb covered a distance of 81 nautical miles and took 16 minutes, with an increase in altitude of 32,238 feet.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which began 18 miles southeast of Busby, Montana. This phase of the flight lasted 58 minutes and covered a distance of 458 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 5 miles southwest of Minneota, Minnesota. The descent took 22 minutes and covered a distance of 121 nautical miles, with a decrease in altitude of 34,272 feet.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its final approach to runway 12R at KMSP Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport. The approach was made from the northwest, with a heading of 122.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,744 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on the runway, which had a length of 3,040 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was 118 knots.
The touchdown distance was 168 meters, and the touchdown speed was 112 knots, both of which were considered good. However, the touchdown rate was heavy at -659 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.9 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were similar to those at takeoff, with a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and winds of 4 knots at 95 degrees.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 670 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 1 hour and 48 minutes. The aircraft used 3,646 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at KMSP Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, achieving a score of 89.2%. The final approach to runway 12R was initiated from the northwest, with a heading of 122.0° at an altitude of 1,744 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The aircraft's approach and landing performance were generally good, with a threshold speed of 118 knots, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown distance of 168 meters was also within the expected parameters. However, the touchdown speed of 112 knots was slightly lower than the threshold speed, indicating a slight deceleration during the final stages of the approach.
One area of concern was the touchdown rate, which was heavy at -659 feet per minute (fpm). This suggests that the aircraft may have touched down with a higher than ideal rate, which could have resulted in a bumpy ride for passengers. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.9 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 16°C and winds of 4 knots at 95°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions would have made the landing relatively straightforward.
The total landing distance of 1,399 meters was 46% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 13.3 meters from the centerline, indicating a slight deviation in the aircraft's rollout path. Overall, while there were some minor issues with the landing, the aircraft's performance was generally good, and the crew was able to bring the aircraft safely to a stop.
