Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope and off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,611 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,611 m of the 1,991 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 534 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking to the runway at VNKT Tribhuvan International Airport, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an Airbus A319, then departed from runway 02 and took off with a takeoff distance of 1,404 meters, which was 48% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 145 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Kathmandu, it encountered local weather conditions of 17°C temperature and a wind speed of 1 knot at 269°. The enroute climb started 1 mile north of the airport and reached a height of 31,008 feet above sea level (asl) in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 98 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off and cruised for 5 minutes, covering 41 nautical miles, before starting its descent.
The descent from 31,000 feet asl to 15,510 feet asl took 12 minutes, covering 59 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off again and cruised for 2 minutes, covering 8 nautical miles, before starting another descent. This descent took 3 minutes, covering 8 nautical miles, and brought the aircraft down to 10,687 feet asl.
The aircraft then climbed from 10,708 feet asl to 15,038 feet asl in 3 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles. It then leveled off and cruised for 2 minutes, covering 5 nautical miles, before starting another climb. This climb took 3 minutes, covering 10 nautical miles, and brought the aircraft up to 16,877 feet asl.
The aircraft then leveled off and cruised for 2 minutes, covering 5 nautical miles, before starting another descent. This descent took 5 minutes, covering 12 nautical miles, and brought the aircraft down to 8,776 feet asl. The aircraft then leveled off and cruised for 3 minutes, covering 8 nautical miles, before starting its final approach to runway 15 at VQPR Paro International Airport.
The final approach was made from the north, heading 155.0°, at 1 nautical mile and 465 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was made on runway 15, which was 1,991 meters long. The threshold height was well above target, and the threshold speed was slightly above target at 139 knots.
The touchdown point was 96 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 130 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was hard at -476 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions were 15°C temperature and a wind speed of 1 knot at 270°.
The total landing distance was 1,508 meters, which was 76% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 265 nautical miles, and the flight took 65 minutes. The aircraft used 2,939 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at VQPR Paro International Airport, achieving a score of 78.7%. The final approach to runway 15 was initiated from the north, with a heading of 155.0° at 1 nautical mile and 465 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was characterized by a slightly above-target threshold speed of 139 knots, which may have contributed to a slightly fast touchdown speed.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 96 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 130 knots was also a little above the target, resulting in a hard touchdown rate of -476 feet per minute (fpm). However, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was well-aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component and a headwind of 0 knots. The total landing distance of 1,508 meters was 76% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
During the rollout phase, the aircraft maintained a very good alignment with the runway, indicating that the pilots had successfully controlled the aircraft's descent and touchdown. Overall, while there were some minor deviations from the target parameters, the landing was considered successful, and the aircraft was able to come to a stop within a reasonable distance from the runway threshold.
