Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,948 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 2,948 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,382 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna C172, then departed from runway 29 at FMNC Mananara Nord Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,031 feet, which accounted for 26% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 57 knots, and the local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 0 knots at 214 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead FMNC Mananara Nord Airport. The climb took 2 minutes and covered 3 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 709 feet above sea level to 1,580 feet above sea level, an increase of 871 feet. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which lasted for 22 minutes and covered 34 nautical miles. This phase of the flight took place 2 miles south of FMNC Mananara Nord Airport.
As the aircraft approached its destination, FMAD Ambodiatafa Airport, it began its final approach to runway 25 from the north-east, heading 235.0 degrees at an altitude of 289 feet above ground level. The local weather conditions at the destination airport were similar to those at the departure airport, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 0 knots at 67 degrees.
The landing on runway 25 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 1,272 feet, which was good considering the runway length of 2,948 feet. The touchdown speed was 46 knots, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -126 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 20 feet from the centreline. The total landing distance was 2,011 feet, which accounted for 68% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
In conclusion, the flight was a successful one, with a total distance of 39 nautical miles and a flight time of 29 minutes. The aircraft used 30 pounds of fuel during the flight, indicating efficient performance. Overall, the flight demonstrated good handling and control, with a smooth and controlled descent and a successful landing.
The Cessna C172 aircraft successfully landed at FMAD Ambodiatafa Airport, with a score of 81.4%. The final approach was initiated from the north-east, heading 235.0° at 0 nm and 289 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft was on a steady course for runway 25, which has a length of 2,948 ft.
Upon landing, the threshold height was found to be well above the target, indicating a good margin of safety. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 64 kn, which may require some adjustments in the approach configuration. The touchdown distance of 1,272 ft was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 46 kn was also within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate was smooth at -126 fpm, indicating a controlled descent.
One area for improvement was the runway touchdown position, which was slightly misaligned by 20 ft from the centreline. This may be due to a slight deviation in the approach path or a minor issue with the aircraft's alignment during the final stages of the approach. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 0 kn at 67°.
The total landing distance of 2,011 ft was 68% of the runway length, which is a reasonable figure considering the aircraft's performance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with some minor areas for improvement that can be addressed in future approaches.
