Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,876 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,876 m of the 3,984 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,008 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Geneva Cointrin International Airport, taking 7 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 22, with a takeoff distance of 1,396 meters, which is 39% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 147 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 3 knots at 244 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 3 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Vernier, Switzerland, where the aircraft climbed from 2,447 feet above sea level to 30,975 feet above sea level, an increase of 28,528 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 69 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started overhead Zimmerwald, Switzerland, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 42 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 31,006 feet above sea level to 36,986 feet above sea level, an increase of 5,979 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 38 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started 2 miles north of Engen, Germany, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 26 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it began its descent from 36,564 feet above sea level to 4,008 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,556 feet in 19 minutes, covering a distance of 108 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started 2 miles south east of Hanau am Main, Germany, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, from 3,405 feet above sea level to 1,624 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,781 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 25L at Frankfurt Airport was made from the east, heading 250.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,269 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 25L, which has a length of 3,984 meters. The threshold height was above the target, while the threshold speed was well above the target at 150 knots.
The touchdown point was 594 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 138 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was smooth at -119 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.3 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 18°C and a wind speed of 3 knots at 320 degrees, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,797 meters, which is 45% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.0 meters from the centreline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight distance was 303 nautical miles, taking 64 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,651 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed on runway 25L at Frankfurt Airport (EDDF), achieving an overall score of 84.5%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 250.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,269 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 594 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the target. The touchdown speed of 138 knots was slightly above the target, indicating that the pilot may have been able to maintain a more controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -119 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was well-managed.
The threshold height at 64 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly higher than desired at the point of touchdown. The threshold speed was well above the target at 150 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly fast touchdown speed.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 18°C and a light wind of 3 knots at 320°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot. These conditions would have made the landing relatively straightforward.
The total landing distance of 1,797 meters was 45% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.3 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the slightly misaligned runway rollout alignment of 11.0 meters from the centerline.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the aircraft was able to touch down safely and come to a stop within a reasonable distance. The pilot's ability to manage the descent and maintain a smooth touchdown rate was a positive aspect of the landing.
