Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,710 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,710 m of the 3,092 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 534 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Munich Airport (EDDM), the Airbus A321 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. As the aircraft lined up on runway 26L, the crew initiated the departure roll, and the aircraft lifted off the ground at a speed of 170 knots. The takeoff distance of 2,449 meters accounted for 61% of the runway length, a testament to the aircraft's efficient performance in the local weather conditions, which featured a temperature of 19°C and a gentle headwind of 2 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to cruising altitude, it passed overhead Hallbergmoos, Bavaria, Germany, marking the beginning of the enroute climb phase. The crew successfully navigated the aircraft through a significant altitude increase of 33,554 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 114 nautical miles. Following this, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, lasting 18 minutes and covering 150 nautical miles, as it flew 1 mile south east of Redwitz an der Rodach, Bavaria, Germany. The enroute descent phase commenced 2 miles north west of Nettgau, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, where the aircraft descended from 36,023 feet to 1,262 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 92 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport (EDDH), it began its final approach to runway 23 from the north east, aligning with a heading of 231.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,212 feet above ground level. The landing was executed smoothly, with a touchdown point 116 meters beyond the touchdown zone and a touchdown speed of 115 knots, slightly above the recommended threshold speed of 121 knots. The aircraft's touchdown rate was a respectable -142 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 365 nautical miles, and the aircraft consumed 2,882 kilograms of fuel during the journey.
The final approach to runway 23 at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport from the north east was executed with precision, with the aircraft heading 231.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,212 feet above ground level. The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 121 knots, well within the acceptable range. As the aircraft descended onto the runway, it touched down 116 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 115 knots, slightly above the ideal range but still within acceptable limits.
The touchdown characteristics were smooth, with a rate of -142 feet per minute, indicating a controlled and stable descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 19°C and a wind of 9 knots at 160°, presented a moderate crosswind component of 9 knots, but the aircraft's heading and alignment compensated for this, resulting in a 3-knot headwind. The total landing distance of 1,628 meters, accounting for 53% of the runway length, was within the acceptable range.
The rollout phase was executed flawlessly, with perfect alignment on the runway centerline. The aircraft's speed was gradually reduced to a stop, with no deviations from the centerline. Overall, the landing was scored 98.8%, reflecting the high level of precision and control demonstrated throughout the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
