Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,611 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 322 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-MAX8, then departed from runway 17L at KOKC Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The takeoff distance was 1,540 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 154 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 10 knots at a direction of 110 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 9 knots and a headwind of 3 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south east of KOKC Will Rogers World Airport. The climb took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 128 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 2,269 feet above sea level to 37,058 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,789 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 6 miles south west of 2OK6 Flying N Ranch Airport in Meeker, Oklahoma. This phase lasted for 22 minutes and covered a distance of 297 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 2 miles north of Mount Sterling in Illinois. The descent took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 139 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 35,778 feet above sea level to 6,194 feet above sea level, a decrease of 29,584 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 3 miles north east of C09 Morris Mun-Washburn Morris in Illinois. This phase lasted for only 3 minutes and covered a distance of 13 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 1 mile east of Crest Hill in Illinois. The descent took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 16 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 5,834 feet above sea level to 1,912 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,922 feet.
The final approach to runway 04R at KMDW Chicago Midway International Airport was made from the south west, with a heading of 43.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,289 feet above ground level. The landing was made on the runway, which had a length of 1,611 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 151 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 320 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 145 knots. The touchdown rate was good at -155 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.7 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 10 knots at a direction of 90 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 7 knots. The total landing distance was 955 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 601 nautical miles, and the flight took 68 minutes. The aircraft used 3,536 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft successfully landed at Chicago Midway International Airport (KMDW) on runway 04R. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 43.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,289 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was slightly above the target threshold speed of 151 knots, registering at 151 kt. However, the touchdown distance of 320 meters was considered good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown speed of 145 kt was a little fast, but this did not significantly impact the overall landing performance.
The aircraft's rate of descent was good, with a touchdown rate of -155 feet per minute (fpm). This suggests that the pilots maintained a stable and controlled approach, which is essential for a safe landing. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 5.7 meters, but this did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing performance.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were moderate, with a temperature of 13°C and a wind speed of 10 knots from a direction of 90°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was also 7 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing performance.
The total landing distance of 955 meters was 59% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the pilots maintained a good approach speed and controlled the aircraft's descent effectively. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft landed safely at Chicago Midway International Airport, with a score of 98.0%. The pilots demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft during the approach and landing phases, despite the slightly above-target threshold speed and fast touchdown speed.
