Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,694 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 420 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Brussels Airport, taking 11 minutes and covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. Departure roll took place on runway 07R, with a takeoff distance of 1,638 meters, which was 53% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 180 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 20°C temperature and winds of 4 knots at 20°. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the headwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Kortenberg, Belgium, and the aircraft ascended from 1,179 feet above sea level to 19,470 feet, an increase of 18,291 feet in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 31 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began overhead Brugelette, Belgium, and lasted for 9 minutes, covering a distance of 65 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent from 19,483 feet above sea level to 13,375 feet, a decrease of 6,107 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 31 nautical miles. This was followed by another enroute level cruise, which started 1 mile east of Avize, France, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 23 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its descent from 13,394 feet above sea level to 5,113 feet, a decrease of 8,281 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 24 nautical miles. Another enroute level cruise started 2 miles east of Chacrise, France, and lasted for 10 minutes, covering a distance of 34 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent from 5,015 feet above sea level to 2,005 feet, a decrease of 3,011 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 16 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise continued, starting overhead Villiers-Adam, France, and lasting for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 1,925 feet above sea level to 758 feet, a decrease of 1,167 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 08R at Charles de Gaulle International Airport was made from the west, heading 88.0° at 1 nautical mile and 396 feet above ground level. The landing took place on the runway, with a touchdown distance of 418 meters and a touchdown speed of 116 knots. The touchdown rate was heavy at -652 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 14.3 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 17°C temperature and winds of 5 knots at 40°. The crosswind was 4 knots, and the headwind was 4 knots. The total landing distance was 1,134 meters, which was 42% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was significantly misaligned by 32.3 meters from the centreline.
The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking 10 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 244 nautical miles, taking 75 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,665 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed on runway 08R at LFPG Charles de Gaulle International Airport, but with some notable deviations from optimal landing procedures. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 88.0° at 1 nm and 396 ft above ground level (agl), which indicates a relatively stable and controlled descent.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was good at 127 kt, and the touchdown distance was also within acceptable limits at 418 m. However, the touchdown speed of 116 kt was slightly lower than the optimal speed, and the touchdown rate was heavy at -652 fpm, which may indicate a slightly steeper descent than intended. This could be due to the aircraft's weight, air density, or the pilot's decision to prioritize a shorter touchdown distance.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 14.3 m from the centreline, which may have contributed to the subsequent rollout alignment issues. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 17 °C and a light wind of 5 kt at 40°, were relatively calm, which should have made the landing easier.
The total landing distance of 1,134 m was 42% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. However, the runway rollout alignment was significantly misaligned by 32.3 m from the centreline, which may indicate a loss of control or a failure to maintain directional control during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, but with some notable deviations from optimal procedures. The pilots may have prioritized a shorter touchdown distance, which resulted in a heavier touchdown rate and subsequent rollout alignment issues. However, the aircraft's performance and the pilots' skills were sufficient to ensure a safe landing.
