Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,373 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 547 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Bremen Airport (EDDW) on runway 27, the Airbus A321 began its takeoff roll, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 148 kt. The aircraft cleared the runway threshold at 799 m, utilizing 39% of the available length. Local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 8 °C, with a wind of 22 kt at 299 °, resulting in a crosswind of 11 kt and a headwind of 18 kt.
As the aircraft climbed to cruising altitude, it passed overhead Stuhr, Lower Saxony, Germany, before transitioning into a steady climb. Reaching a maximum altitude of 38,008 ft, the aircraft covered a distance of 161 nm in 23 minutes. Following a 42-minute cruise at a level altitude, the aircraft began its descent, passing 2 miles east of Mery, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France. The descent phase saw the aircraft decrease in altitude by 33,008 ft in 28 minutes, covering 173 nm. The aircraft then leveled off for a brief period, 8 miles south west of Mazargues, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France, before commencing its final descent. Touching down on runway 31R at Marseille Provence Airport (LFML), the aircraft utilized 35% of the available runway length, covering a total distance of 1,188 m.
Local weather conditions at the time of landing featured a temperature of 10 °C, with a wind of 37 kt at 340 °, resulting in a crosswind of 16 kt and a headwind of 33 kt. The touchdown speed of 131 kt was slightly above the target, while the touchdown rate of -462 fpm was considered hard. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.0 m from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.2 m from the centreline. The total flight distance was 679 nm, taking 108 minutes, and the aircraft utilized 4,893 kg of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft touched down on runway 31R at LFML Marseille Provence Airport, a 3,373-meter-long runway, after a final approach from the south east. The approach quality was good, with a threshold height that met expectations. However, the threshold speed was above the target, reaching 150 knots. This may have been due to the challenging wind conditions, with a 37-knot wind at 340 degrees, resulting in a 16-knot crosswind and a 33-knot headwind.
The touchdown point was 111 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed of 131 knots was slightly faster than desired. The touchdown rate was also hard, at -462 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.0 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius and strong winds, likely played a significant role in the landing performance.
The total landing distance was 1,188 meters, which is 35% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned, by 9.2 meters from the centerline. Despite these minor deviations, the overall landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 90.5%. The crew demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft, but may need to refine their approach and touchdown techniques to achieve a more optimal landing.
