Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,282 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,142 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna CJ4 Citation, then departed from runway 36R at KDFW Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The takeoff distance was 2,019 feet, which accounted for 15% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 143 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 60°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from 270°. The crosswind component was 2 knots, while the headwind component was 0 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile southeast of Grapevine, Texas, and ascended from 1,630 feet above sea level to 35,010 feet above sea level, a total increase of 33,380 feet, in 13 minutes and covering 62 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 2 miles west of 4O2 Love Co Marietta, Oklahoma, and lasted for 102 minutes, covering 742 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 11 miles southwest of Escalante, Utah, and descended from 34,997 feet above sea level to 4,148 feet above sea level, a total decrease of 30,849 feet, in 20 minutes and covering 87 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 19 at KSGU St George Regional Airport was made from the north, heading 203.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,306 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 19 was characterized by a touchdown point 1,377 feet beyond the touchdown zone, a touchdown speed of 95 knots, which was a little fast, and a touchdown rate of -31 feet per minute, which was perfect. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 18 feet from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 2 knots from 269°, with a crosswind component of 2 knots and a headwind component of 1 knot. The total landing distance was 3,709 feet, which accounted for 40% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 898 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 143 minutes. Notably, the aircraft used 0 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna CJ4 Citation aircraft successfully landed at KSGU St George Regional Airport, but with some areas for improvement. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 203.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,306 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 19, which has a length of 9,282 feet.
However, there were some discrepancies in the landing performance. The threshold height at 78 feet agl was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been too high during the approach. Additionally, the threshold speed was too high at 112 knots, which could have contributed to the high touchdown speed. The touchdown point was 1,377 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed of 95 knots was slightly faster than ideal.
On a positive note, the touchdown rate was perfect at -31 feet per minute, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 18 feet from the centreline, but the runway rollout alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a light wind of 2 knots at 269°.
The total landing distance was 3,709 feet, which is 40% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, but it could have been improved with a more precise approach and touchdown. Overall, the landing was successful, but there are areas for improvement to achieve a more precise and efficient landing.
