Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,561 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 271 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from London Gatwick Airport, the Airbus A321 began its journey on runway 26L, taking off with a liftoff speed of 173 kt after a 2,133 m takeoff distance, which covered 85% of the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 12 °C, with a wind speed of 11 kt at 20 °, resulting in a crosswind of 10 kt and a tailwind of 6 kt.
As the aircraft climbed to its enroute cruise altitude, it began its ascent 1 mile south west of Charlwood, Surrey, England, reaching a height of 32,423 ft asl after a 19-minute climb, covering 116 nm. The enroute level cruise phase started overhead Mesnil-Panneville, Normandie, France, lasting 50 minutes and covering 344 nm. Following a brief descent from 32,469 ft asl to 1,869 ft asl, the aircraft entered another enroute level cruise phase, this time overhead Antibes, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France, lasting 28 minutes and covering 2 nm. The final approach to runway 04L at Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport was initiated from the south west, with a heading of 45.0 ° at 4 nm and 1,264 ft agl.
The Airbus A321 landed on runway 04L at Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport, with a touchdown distance of 270 m, which was 51% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was slightly fast at 140 kt, but the runway touchdown position was only slightly misaligned by 5.8 m from the centreline. The total landing distance was 1,296 m, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. Following a short taxiing period of 3 minutes, the aircraft arrived at the parking area, having covered a total distance of 609 nm and consumed 5,578 kg of fuel during the 1 hour and 9-minute flight.
The aircraft touched down on runway 04L at LFMN Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport with a threshold height that met the desired standards. The threshold speed of 140 kt was also well within the acceptable range, indicating a good approach quality. As the aircraft made contact with the runway, the touchdown distance of 270 m was satisfactory, but the touchdown speed of 140 kt was slightly above the ideal, resulting in a firm touchdown rate of -324 fpm.
The aircraft's alignment with the runway centreline was not perfect, with a deviation of 5.8 m from the centreline. However, the runway rollout alignment was very good, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control and stability during the critical phase of the landing. The total landing distance of 1,296 m, which accounted for 51% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits.
The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 16 °C and wind speeds of 16 kt at 80 °, presented a moderate headwind component of 13 kt and a crosswind component of 9 kt. Despite these conditions, the pilot was able to execute a safe and controlled landing, with a final score of 97.0%. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with some minor deviations from the ideal performance.
