Reduce your height at the threshold
Even a modest height error carries straight through to the touchdown. Geometry alone says that crossing the threshold 10 feet high on a 3° path moves your touchdown roughly 190 feet further down the runway before the flare adds anything.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope.
The approach that landed joined below the 1,000 ft gate, after a go-around. The gate assessed on the earlier approach is not shown - it was not the landing's.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 6,171 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,430 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna CJ4 Citation, then departed from runway 09 at KLUM Menomonie Municipal Score Field. The takeoff distance was 2,656 feet, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 133 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 46°F and a wind speed of 4 knots at 263°.
As the aircraft climbed, it started to ascend 1 mile east of KLUM Menomonie Municipal Score Field, rising from an altitude of 2,412 feet above sea level to 25,968 feet above sea level. This increase of 23,557 feet was achieved in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 49 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise began 3 miles south of Alma Center, Wisconsin, and lasted for 82 minutes, covering a distance of 587 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 5 miles west of Welch, West Virginia, and involved a decrease in altitude from 25,991 feet above sea level to 2,746 feet above sea level. This decrease of 23,245 feet was achieved in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 75 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 19 at KUKF Wilkes County Airport was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 180.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,482 feet above ground level.
However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around at 942 feet above ground level due to the approach not being successful. The landing was eventually made on runway 19 at KUKF Wilkes County Airport, which had a length of 6,171 feet. The threshold height was excessively over target, and the threshold speed was too high at 114 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 1,426 feet, but the touchdown speed was too fast at 108 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -301 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 44°F and a wind speed of 4 knots at 263°. The crosswind was 4 knots, and the headwind was 0 knots. The total landing distance was 2,771 feet, which accounted for 45% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 719 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 115 minutes. The aircraft used 2,913 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna CJ4 Citation aircraft successfully landed at KUKF Wilkes County Airport, but with some areas for improvement. The final approach was initiated from the north, heading 180.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,482 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 19, which has a length of 6,171 feet.
However, there were some discrepancies in the landing performance. The threshold height at 546 feet agl was excessively over the target, indicating that the aircraft descended too quickly during the final approach. Additionally, the threshold speed was too high at 114 knots, which may have contributed to the excessive descent rate. On the other hand, the touchdown distance was good at 1,426 feet, indicating that the aircraft maintained a stable approach and touched down at a reasonable distance from the runway threshold.
Despite the good touchdown distance, the touchdown speed was too fast at 108 knots, which may have resulted in a firm touchdown rate of -301 feet per minute (fpm). A firmer touchdown rate can be beneficial in terms of reducing the risk of wheel damage or other landing gear issues, but it may also increase the risk of passenger discomfort. Fortunately, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 44°F and a wind speed of 4 knots from 263°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was zero. The total landing distance was 2,771 feet, which is approximately 45% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable approach and touchdown.
Finally, the runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase. Overall, while there were some areas for improvement in the landing performance, the Cessna CJ4 Citation aircraft was able to successfully land at KUKF Wilkes County Airport with a score of 83.5%.
