Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,525 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,525 m of the 2,442 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 842 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Simón Bolívar International Airport, taking 9 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 10, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 1,530 meters, which was 44% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 158 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Simón Bolívar International Airport, it reached an altitude of 4,008 feet above sea level, increasing from an initial altitude of 1,188 feet. This climb took place over a distance of 5 nautical miles and lasted for 1 minute. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, flying at a steady altitude for 2 minutes and covering a distance of 7 nautical miles, 5 miles north of Maiquetia.
The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 4,010 feet to 29,973 feet above sea level, over a distance of 78 nautical miles and lasting for 13 minutes. Following this climb, the aircraft entered another level cruise, flying at a steady altitude for 44 minutes and covering a distance of 292 nautical miles, 15 miles northwest of Los Roques Airport.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent from 30,105 feet above sea level to 1,288 feet, over a distance of 91 nautical miles and lasting for 20 minutes. The final approach to runway 10 at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport was made from the west, with the aircraft flying at a heading of 90 degrees and at an altitude of 1,268 feet above ground level.
The landing took place on runway 10, with the aircraft touching down 406 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 120 knots, which was good, while the touchdown rate was fair at -200 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 90 degrees. The crosswind was 0 knots, and the headwind was 7 knots. The total landing distance was 1,425 meters, which was 58% of the runway length. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight distance was 481 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 91 minutes. The aircraft used 3,100 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at TJSJ Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, achieving an overall score of 84.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 90.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,268 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 10, which has a length of 2,442 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 406 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the target. However, the touchdown speed of 120 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a good control of the aircraft's descent. The touchdown rate of -200 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have been brought down more smoothly.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 28°C and a gentle headwind of 7 knots from a direction of 90°. This headwind actually helped to reduce the aircraft's ground speed, making the landing more manageable. The crosswind component was negligible, at 0 knots.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. This is an important aspect of safe landing, as it helps to prevent the aircraft from veering off the runway or experiencing uneven braking.
The total landing distance of 1,425 meters was 58% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This suggests that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft down smoothly and efficiently, using the available runway length to its fullest extent. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, while there were some minor deviations from the target, the Airbus A320 landed safely and efficiently at TJSJ Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, achieving a respectable score of 84.3%.
