MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,193 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,193 m of the 2,495 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,268 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking to the runway at Fuerteventura Airport, taking 5 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. Departure roll took place on runway 01, with a takeoff distance of 938 meters, which was 48% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 145 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Fuerteventura Airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 28°C temperature and winds of 11 knots at 40°. The crosswind was 7 knots, while the headwind was 9 knots. The enroute climb started overhead the airport, El Matorral, and continued to an altitude of 44,554 feet above sea level, an increase of 43,717 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 143 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began at a latitude of 30.8297595 and a longitude of -13.3177997, lasting 206 minutes and covering 1,521 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent 49 miles northeast of Happisburgh, England, and descended from 42,991 feet to 26,193 feet in 7 minutes, covering 56 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started again 29 miles east of Lowestoft, England, and lasted 7 minutes, covering 44 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent 25 miles southeast of Orford, England, and descended from 25,330 feet to 14,410 feet in 5 minutes, covering 32 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started once more 3 miles north of Margate, England, and lasted 3 minutes, covering 18 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent 2 miles south of Lower Hardres, England, and descended from 13,831 feet to 1,972 feet in 12 minutes, covering 37 nautical miles.
The final enroute level cruise started 1 mile east of Edenbridge, England, and lasted 3 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 26L at London Gatwick Airport, heading 258.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,262 feet above ground level.
The landing took place on runway 26L, which was 2,495 meters long. The threshold height was significantly above the target, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 137 knots. The touchdown point was 776 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 117 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was smooth at -141 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 19°C temperature and winds of 7 knots at 358°. The crosswind was 7 knots, while the tailwind was 1 knot. The total landing distance was 2,036 meters, which was 82% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.4 meters from the centreline.
The flight ended with taxiing to the parking from the runway, taking 6 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,867 nautical miles, taking 279 minutes, and the aircraft used 1,535 kilograms of fuel.
Aircraft C750 successfully landed on runway 26L at EGKK London Gatwick Airport, achieving a score of 75.6%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 258.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,262 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway, with the touchdown point located 776 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone. The touchdown speed of 117 knots was slightly above the target, indicating that the pilot may have been able to reduce the speed further during the approach. However, the touchdown rate of -141 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, suggesting that the pilot maintained control throughout the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 19°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 358°. This resulted in a crosswind component of 7 knots and a tailwind component of 1 knot. Despite these conditions, the pilot maintained perfect runway touchdown alignment.
However, the total landing distance of 2,036 meters was 82% of the available runway length, indicating that the aircraft may have been able to stop within a shorter distance. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.4 meters from the centerline, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to maintain a more precise alignment during the rollout.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there are areas for improvement, particularly in terms of reducing the touchdown speed and maintaining a more precise rollout alignment.
