Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,722 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 532 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, taking approximately 9 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 36L, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 2,226 meters, which was 66% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb 2 miles northwest of Paracuellos de Jarama, Spain, at an altitude of 3,029 feet above sea level. The climb continued to an altitude of 37,818 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,790 feet, in 19 minutes and covering 112 nautical miles. The local weather conditions at the time were a temperature of 13°C.
The enroute level cruise started overhead Aerdromo Forestal La Fonfra Pazuengos in La Rioja, Spain, and lasted for 32 minutes, covering 429 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent overhead Garennes-sur-Eure in Normandie, France, descending from 37,744 feet above sea level to 5,177 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,567 feet, in 12 minutes and covering 124 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started again 1 mile east of Flines-les-Mortagne in Hauts-de-France, France, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 1 mile west of Beloeil in Wallonia, Belgium, descending from 4,671 feet above sea level to 1,974 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,697 feet, in 5 minutes and covering 18 nautical miles.
The final enroute level cruise started 2 miles north of Braine-le-Comte in Wallonia, Belgium, and lasted for 7 minutes, covering 16 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 01 at Brussels Airport from the south, heading 14.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,307 feet above ground level.
The landing took place on runway 01 at Brussels Airport, which was 2,722 meters long. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 132 knots. The touchdown point was 112 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 119 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was very hard at -543 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.8 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.7 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 9°C, with a wind of 16 knots at 78°, resulting in a crosswind of 14 knots and a headwind of 7 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,430 meters, which was 53% of the runway length. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took approximately 6 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 714 nautical miles, taking 91 minutes, and the aircraft used -4,154 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Brussels Airport (EBBR) on runway 01, achieving a score of 86.8%. The final approach was conducted from the south, heading 14.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,307 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 2,722 meters, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 132 knots.
However, there were some areas for improvement during the landing. The touchdown point was 112 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed of 119 knots was slightly below the threshold speed. The most concerning aspect of the landing was the very hard touchdown rate of -543 feet per minute (fpm), which indicates a high rate of descent. This could potentially put a strain on the aircraft's landing gear and may have caused a bumpy ride for the passengers.
Additionally, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.8 meters from the centerline, which could have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's heading or a miscalculation of the approach path. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 9°C and a wind speed of 16 knots at 78°, contributed to a crosswind of 14 knots and a headwind of 7 knots. These conditions may have made the landing more challenging.
The total landing distance was 1,430 meters, which is 53% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, but it could have been achieved with a more precise approach and a smoother touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 10.7 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's heading during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of the touchdown rate and the alignment of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
