MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Arrival
Begin the flare with progressive back pressure and keep it coming until the sink is arrested, rather than flying it on flat.
What happened: The nose was barely raised in the flare and little of the sink was taken out, flying the aircraft onto the runway. This pattern usually carries through to a firm touchdown with a noticeable sink rate.
Watch for: Vertical speed indicator: a smoothly reducing sink through the normal flare band, not a steady rate into the runway.
Preparing for a stable approach will give you time to decide on whether to attempt the landing or going around. Too much altitude with a high sink rate will result in carrying too much speed onto the runway. Configuring flaps and the gear late also won't help the speed decay.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 500 ft gate: centreline 6.4° off, against a 1° limit and wings 14° of bank, against a 10° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,624 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 239 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Frankfurt Airport, the Airbus A321 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. Upon reaching runway 18, the aircraft initiated its departure roll, accelerating down the 2,270-meter-long runway, which represented 57% of its total length. At a liftoff speed of 172 knots, the aircraft successfully lifted off the ground, taking advantage of the favorable local weather conditions, with a temperature of 20°C and a gentle tailwind of 4 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its enroute altitude, it began its ascent from 1,325 feet above sea level, gradually increasing to 32,010 feet, a vertical gain of 30,685 feet, over a distance of 173 nautical miles, in 26 minutes. The climb phase was followed by a prolonged enroute level cruise, which lasted 609 minutes, covering a distance of 1,313 nautical miles. The aircraft then initiated its descent, starting 74 miles northeast of Porto Santo Airport, Madeira, and gradually decreasing its altitude from 31,926 feet to 383 feet, a vertical loss of 31,543 feet, over a distance of 116 nautical miles, in 23 minutes.
As the aircraft approached Madeira International Airport Cristiano Ronaldo, it began its final approach to runway 05, aligning itself with the runway from the southwest, at a heading of 43.0°, 1 nautical mile from the threshold, and 204 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed smoothly on the 2,483-meter-long runway, with a touchdown distance of 247 meters, representing 53% of the runway length. The touchdown speed of 140 knots was slightly above the recommended threshold speed, but the aircraft's touchdown rate of -306 feet per minute was firm, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. Following a short taxiing period of 1 minute, covering less than 1 nautical mile, the aircraft came to a stop, having completed its journey of 1,610 nautical miles, using 12,103 kilograms of fuel, and lasting a total of 242 minutes.
The aircraft touched down on runway 05 at LPMA Madeira International Airport Cristiano Ronaldo with a firm touchdown rate of -306 fpm, slightly above the optimal range. The touchdown speed of 140 kt was a little fast, but the pilot managed to maintain control and bring the aircraft to a stop within a reasonable distance. The touchdown distance of 247 m was good, and the aircraft remained aligned with the centreline throughout the rollout phase.
The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 146 kt, which was well within the acceptable range. The aircraft was on a heading of 43.0° at 1 nm and 204 ft agl, indicating a stable and controlled descent. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 17 °C and a wind of 4 kt at 340°, contributed to a relatively smooth landing. The crosswind and headwind components were minimal, with 4 kt and 2 kt respectively, which further aided the pilot's ability to maintain control.
The overall landing performance was impressive, with a total landing distance of 1,312 m, which is 53% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control and aligned the aircraft with the centreline throughout the rollout phase. The score of 98.9% reflects the high level of proficiency demonstrated by the pilot during the landing.
