MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Departure
Make small rudder corrections against a point at the far end to hold the centreline.
What happened: During the ground roll you drifted 9.4 m off the runway centreline.
Watch for: Watch runway alignment against the centreline, correcting with small rudder inputs.
See Departure Roll
Arrival
Add power on short final to hold 154 kt at the threshold rather than letting speed decay.
What happened: You crossed the threshold at 153 kt against a target of 154 kt, below reference speed.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator, hold 154 kt down to the threshold.
See Arrival Landing
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: six checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,846 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,846 m of the 4,569 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 246 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boom XB-1, then departed from runway 05L at KEDW Edwards Air Force Base. The takeoff distance was 1,364 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 170 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 12°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 230°. There was no crosswind, but a tailwind of 2 knots was present. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile northeast of KEDW Edwards Air Force Base, Edwards, California, and ascended from an altitude of 3,362 feet above sea level to 18,405 feet above sea level, an increase of 15,043 feet, in just 4 minutes and covering a distance of 17 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 10 miles north of the 28CL Borax Heliport in Boron, California, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb 11 miles northeast of California City, California, and ascended from 18,658 feet above sea level to 27,769 feet above sea level, an increase of 9,110 feet, in 5 minutes and covering a distance of 29 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 4 miles northeast of the 62CL Flying Pear Ranch Airport in Caliente, California, and descended from 27,912 feet above sea level to 3,489 feet above sea level, a decrease of 24,424 feet, in 10 minutes and covering a distance of 38 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise 4 miles northeast of Rosamond, California, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 05R at KEDW Edwards Air Force Base was made from the southwest, heading 57.0° at 3 nautical miles and 374 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, which had a length of 4,569 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was 153 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 244 meters, and the touchdown speed was 137 knots. However, the touchdown rate was very heavy at -771 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.3 meters from the centerline, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 230°. There was no crosswind, but a tailwind of 2 knots was present. The total landing distance was 1,769 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 15.2 meters from the centerline.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 108 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 31 minutes. The aircraft used 405 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boom XB-1 aircraft successfully landed on runway 05R at Edwards Air Force Base, achieving a score of 76.8%. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 57.0° at 3 nautical miles and 374 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft successfully touched down on the runway, with a touchdown distance of 244 meters, which is considered good.
The touchdown speed was 137 knots, which is slightly below the threshold speed of 153 knots. However, the touchdown rate was very heavy, at -771 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a significant deceleration upon touchdown. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.3 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the heavy touchdown rate.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 2 knots from 230°. The crosswind component was negligible, while the tailwind component was 2 knots. These conditions likely had a minimal impact on the landing performance of the aircraft.
The total landing distance was 1,769 meters, which is 39% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 15.2 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have experienced some difficulties in maintaining a straight course during the rollout phase.
Overall, while the Boom XB-1 aircraft demonstrated some areas for improvement, the landing was ultimately successful, and the aircraft was able to come to a stop within a reasonable distance.
