Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,633 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,633 m of the 3,984 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 533 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Düsseldorf Airport (EDDL), the Airbus A320 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. As the aircraft lined up on runway 05R, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 13 °C and a wind speed of 16 kt from a direction of 350°, resulting in a crosswind of 14 kt and a headwind of 7 kt.
After a successful departure roll, the aircraft initiated its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northeast of Düsseldorf Airport and ascending to a maximum altitude of 19,613 ft. This climb phase, which lasted 8 minutes, covered a distance of 50 nautical miles and resulted in an increase of 18,508 ft in altitude. Following a brief level cruise phase, the aircraft began its descent, starting overhead Freirachdorf and descending to an altitude of 1,637 ft. This descent phase, which lasted 11 minutes, covered a distance of 58 nautical miles and resulted in a decrease of 17,192 ft in altitude.
Upon approaching Frankfurt Airport (EDDF), the aircraft initiated a series of go-arounds on runway 07R, before finally landing on the runway. The landing was characterized by a touchdown point 122 m beyond the touchdown zone, a touchdown speed of 129 kt, and a touchdown rate of -173 fpm. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also satisfactory. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 307 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 3,745 kg of fuel during the flight, which lasted a total of 82 minutes.
The aircraft touched down on runway 07R at EDDF Frankfurt Airport, a 3,984-meter-long runway, with a good threshold height. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a heading of 70.0° from the south west at 4 nautical miles and 1,289 feet above ground level. The threshold speed was slightly above the target at 140 knots, but still within acceptable limits. The touchdown point was 122 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-run.
The touchdown characteristics were notable, with a speed of 129 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate of -173 feet per minute was good, indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, demonstrating precise control during the final stages of the approach. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 13°C and a gentle wind of 7 knots at 4°, contributed to a smooth landing.
The total landing distance of 1,557 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway, was within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration after touchdown. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 95.2%. The slight over-run and slightly fast touchdown speed were the only notable deviations from optimal performance.
