Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,786 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,786 m of the 3,357 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 567 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-MAX8, then departed from runway 30 at Edmonton International Airport (CYEG) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The takeoff distance was 1,626 meters, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 17°C and winds of 9 knots at 349 degrees. The crosswind was 5 knots, while the headwind was 8 knots. After departing from CYEG, the enroute climb began 1 mile west of the airport, with the aircraft climbing from 3,349 feet above sea level to 32,759 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,410 feet in 14 minutes and covering a distance of 114 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 18 miles west of Provost, Alberta, and lasted for 26 minutes, covering a distance of 410 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 8 miles west of Rivers, Manitoba, descending from 32,841 feet above sea level to 2,106 feet above sea level, a decrease of 30,735 feet in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 125 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 36 at Winnipeg / James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (CYWG) was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 6.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,316 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 36, which had a length of 3,357 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 157 knots.
The touchdown point was 157 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 148 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -218 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The local weather conditions at CYWG were a temperature of 14°C and winds of 4 knots at 0 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 4 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,711 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 658 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 68 minutes. The aircraft used 3,712 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft successfully landed at Winnipeg / James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (CYWG) on runway 36. The final approach was conducted from the south, with a heading of 6.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,316 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 156 kt, registering at 157 kt. However, the touchdown point was 157 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. The touchdown speed of 148 kt was a bit faster than the ideal speed, but the touchdown rate of -218 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 14°C and a wind speed of 4 kt at 0°. The crosswind was minimal at 1 kt, and the headwind was 4 kt, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing process. The runway length of 3,357 meters was sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance of 1,711 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing process. Similarly, the runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilot's skill and control during the landing. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a score of 98.5%.
