Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,091 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,091 m of the 3,100 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 893 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Ajaccio-Napoléon Bonaparte Airport, taking 7 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 20, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 1,301 meters, which was 60% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 149 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 12 knots coming from a direction of 230 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 11 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile southwest of the airport and ascending from an altitude of 1,017 feet above sea level to 35,010 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,993 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 120 nautical miles.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 38 miles south of Carqueiranne, France, and lasted for 32 minutes, covering a distance of 236 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile northwest of Le Montat, France, and descending from 35,271 feet above sea level to 1,447 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,824 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 93 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23 at Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport was made from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 225.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,279 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on runway 23, which had a length of 3,100 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 139 knots. The touchdown point was 477 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 127 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -242 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.8 meters from the centerline, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 7 knots coming from a direction of 80 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a tailwind of 6 knots. The total landing distance was 2,011 meters, which was 65% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The flight ended with the aircraft taxiing to the parking area from the runway, taking 6 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 458 nautical miles, taking 86 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,570 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at LFBD Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport, achieving a score of 93.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 225.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,279 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good control, and the aircraft landed on runway 23, which has a length of 3,100 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 139 knots, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown point was 477 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly longer than ideal but still within acceptable limits. The touchdown speed of 127 knots was also good, indicating that the aircraft was properly configured for landing. However, the touchdown rate of -242 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the aircraft may have touched down slightly harder than desired.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.8 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or a minor issue with the aircraft's navigation system. The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 32°C and a wind speed of 7 knots at 80°. The crosswind component was minimal at 4 knots, while the tailwind component was 6 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly longer touchdown point.
The total landing distance of 2,011 meters was 65% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's weight and the weather conditions. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were properly applied and the aircraft was under control during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with some minor issues that could be addressed in future approaches.
