Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,848 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 631 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Vision Jet taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. Once on the runway, the aircraft departed from runway 16 at VYDW Dawei Airport, with a takeoff distance of 2,407 feet, which is 20% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 99 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 82°F temperature and a wind speed of 6 knots at 229 degrees. The crosswind was 6 knots, while the headwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb started overhead VYDW Dawei Airport, where the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 825 feet above sea level to 30,009 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,183 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 84 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 2 miles west of Phanom Thuan, a location in Changwat Kanchanaburi, Thailand, and lasted for 53 minutes, covering a distance of 268 nautical miles. The descent started 8 miles southwest of Si Sa Ket, a location in Changwat Si Sa Ket, Thailand, and lasted for 23 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 30,283 feet above sea level to 1,675 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,608 feet, covering a distance of 45 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23 at VTUU Ubon Ratchathani Airport was made from the northeast, heading 232.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,267 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 23 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 627 feet, which is 16% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 68 knots, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -125 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 19 feet from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 91°F temperature and a wind speed of 18 knots at 240 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 18 knots. The total landing distance was 1,580 feet, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 404 nautical miles, taking 109 minutes, and the aircraft used 715 pounds of fuel.
The Vision Jet aircraft successfully landed at VTUU Ubon Ratchathani Airport, achieving a score of 98.1%. The final approach to runway 23 was initiated from the north east, with a heading of 232.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,267 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft successfully touched down on the runway, which has a length of 9,848 feet.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 77 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 627 feet was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 68 knots was also within acceptable limits. The touchdown rate was smooth at -125 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 19 feet from the centreline, which may require some adjustments during future landings. The local weather conditions at the time of landing included a temperature of 91°F and a wind speed of 18 knots from 240°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 18 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly above-target threshold speed.
The total landing distance of 1,580 feet was within 16% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was reported as very good, suggesting that the aircraft was well under control during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the Vision Jet aircraft demonstrating good handling and control characteristics.
