Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,379 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 304 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-MAX8, then departed from runway 17R at LIMC Milan Malpensa International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,756 meters, which is 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 7°C, with a wind speed of 4 knots at a direction of 120°. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 3 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Lonate Pozzolo in Lombardia, Italy. The climb took 16 minutes and covered a distance of 81 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 1,657 feet above sea level to 31,885 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,229 feet.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 1 mile southwest of Mex in the Canton du Valais, Switzerland. This cruise lasted for 12 minutes and covered a distance of 84 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its first descent, starting overhead Biarne in Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, France. The descent took 22 minutes and covered a distance of 112 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 31,848 feet above sea level to 6,774 feet above sea level, a decrease of 25,074 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting overhead Connantre in Grand Est, France. This cruise lasted for 21 minutes and covered a distance of 75 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its second descent, starting 1 mile northeast of Saint-Felix in Hauts-de-France, France. The descent took 2 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 2,734 feet above sea level to 1,459 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,275 feet.
The final approach to runway 30 at LFOB Paris-Beauvais Airport was made from the southeast, heading 304.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,109 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 30, which has a length of 2,379 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 139 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 304 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 139 knots. The touchdown rate was very hard at -575 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 2°C, with a wind speed of 5 knots at a direction of 360°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 3 knots. The total landing distance was 1,296 meters, which is 54% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking from the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 365 nautical miles, and the flight took 86 minutes. The aircraft used 2,742 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft successfully landed at LFOB Paris-Beauvais Airport, achieving a score of 95.2%. The final approach to runway 30 was conducted from the south east, with a heading of 304.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,109 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 139 knots. However, the touchdown speed was slightly higher than ideal at 139 kt, which may have contributed to a harder-than-desired touchdown rate of -575 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control and precision during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 2°C and a light wind of 5 knots from a direction of 360°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 kt and a headwind of 3 kt, which the pilot effectively managed during the landing. The total landing distance was 1,296 meters, which is 54% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the pilot executed the landing smoothly and efficiently.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft maintained perfect runway rollout alignment, demonstrating the pilot's skill and control during the landing phase. Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and efficiently on the runway.
