Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,284 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 489 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A319, then departed from runway 30 at the Edmonton International Airport (CYEG) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The takeoff distance was 170 meters, which accounted for 5% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 138 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots at 270 degrees. The crosswind and headwind components were both 6 knots. After departing from CYEG, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and reached an altitude of 37,657 feet above sea level. The climb covered a distance of 79 nautical miles and took 16 minutes, with an increase in altitude of 34,262 feet.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 20 miles west of the Rocky Mountain House Airport (CYRM) in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada. This phase lasted for 40 minutes and covered a distance of 236 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent, which began 1 mile north of the Quilchena Airport (CBT6) in Quilchena, British Columbia, Canada. The descent covered a distance of 117 nautical miles and took 27 minutes, with a decrease in altitude of 36,204 feet.
The final approach to the runway was made at the Vancouver International Airport (CYVR), with the aircraft approaching runway 26L from the east. The aircraft was at an altitude of 1,284 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway threshold. The local weather conditions at CYVR were a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots at 280 degrees, with a crosswind component of 0 knots and a headwind component of 9 knots.
The aircraft landed on runway 26L, which had a length of 3,284 meters. The threshold height was above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 130 knots. The touchdown point was 71 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 128 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was hard at -458 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.3 meters from the centerline.
The total landing distance was 1,411 meters, which accounted for 43% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.2 meters from the centerline. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 441 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 101 minutes. The aircraft used 3,049 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed on runway 26L at Vancouver International Airport (CYVR) with a score of 87.4%. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 280.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,284 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft was on a standard approach path, but the threshold height at 60 feet agl was above the target, indicating a slightly higher-than-expected descent rate.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was slightly above the target at 130 knots, and the touchdown speed of 128 knots was a little fast. The touchdown rate was hard at -458 feet per minute (fpm), which may have contributed to the slightly above-target speed. The touchdown point was 71 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-run.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.3 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path or a miscalculation of the aircraft's position. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 16°C and a headwind of 9 knots at 280°. The crosswind was negligible, at 0 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,411 meters, which is 43% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and stop within a reasonable distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.2 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's path during the rollout.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from the target parameters. The aircraft's speed and touchdown rate were slightly above target, and the touchdown point and runway touchdown position were misaligned. However, the landing distance was relatively short, and the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance.
