Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,999 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 408 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen. This process took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. Once at the runway, the aircraft departed from runway 01L, with a takeoff distance of 1,312 meters, which is 37% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 149 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of -11°C temperature and a wind speed of 1 knot at 240 degrees. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 1 knot. After departing from Gardermoen, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport. The climb took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 128 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 1,695 feet above sea level to 39,316 feet above sea level, an increase of 37,621 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 14 miles south of Roros, Norway. This phase lasted for 21 minutes and covered a distance of 406 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 11 miles northwest of Bjerkvik, Norway. The descent took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 73 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 38,554 feet above sea level to 1,705 feet above sea level, a decrease of 36,850 feet.
The final approach to runway 18 at ENTC Tromsø Airport, Langnes was made from the north, with a heading of 193.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,671 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 410 meters, which is 48% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 126 knots, and the touchdown rate was firm at -385 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were -1°C temperature and a wind speed of 5 knots at 210 degrees. The crosswind component was 1 knot, and the headwind component was 4 knots. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 614 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 62 minutes. The aircraft used 3,758 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at ENTC Tromsø Airport, Langnes, with a score of 97.6%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 193.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,671 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, setting the stage for a smooth touchdown.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 18, which has a length of 1,999 meters. The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 131 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the final approach.
The touchdown distance of 410 meters was also good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain control and land smoothly. The touchdown speed of 126 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -385 feet per minute (fpm) was firm but not excessive. This suggests that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of landing without any issues.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline as it touched down. This is an important aspect of landing, as it helps to ensure that the aircraft remains stable and under control.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of -1°C and a wind speed of 5 knots from 210°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 4 knots. These conditions were favorable for landing, and the pilot was able to take advantage of the headwind to help slow the aircraft down during the final approach.
The total landing distance of 952 meters was 48% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the aircraft was able to land smoothly and maintain control throughout the landing process. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain its alignment with the runway centerline as it rolled out after landing.
Overall, the landing was executed with precision and control, and the aircraft was able to land smoothly and safely at ENTC Tromsø Airport, Langnes. The score of 97.6% reflects the high level of proficiency demonstrated by the pilot during the landing.
