Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,411 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 293 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 22 at Larnaca International Airport (LCLK). The takeoff distance was 1,860 meters, which accounted for 66% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 162 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 6 knots at 310°. The crosswind was 6 knots, while the headwind was 1 knot. The enroute climb started overhead Meneou, Cyprus, and continued for 20 minutes, covering a distance of 119 nautical miles. The aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,051 feet above sea level to 35,469 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,417 feet.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 59 miles west of Pegeia, Cyprus. This phase lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 22 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, which started 66 miles southeast of Beykonak, Turkey. The descent from 36,026 feet above sea level to 25,213 feet above sea level took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 36 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 33 miles southeast of Cirali, Turkey. This phase lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 9 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent once again, which started 25 miles southeast of Cirali, Turkey. The descent from 24,714 feet above sea level to 10,929 feet above sea level took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 43 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 7 miles west of Side Airport, Turkey. This phase lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent once again, which started 4 miles southeast of Serik, Turkey. The descent from 10,813 feet above sea level to 2,942 feet above sea level took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 16 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 8 miles northeast of the Antalya Static Carrier, Turkey. This phase lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent once again, which started 3 miles south of the Antalya Static Carrier, Turkey. The descent from 2,940 feet above sea level to 2,444 feet above sea level took 2 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started overhead the Antalya Static Carrier, Turkey. This phase lasted for 4 minutes and covered a distance of 11 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 36R at Antalya International Airport (LTAI) was made from the south, with a heading of 6.0° and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the threshold.
The landing on runway 36R was successful, with a touchdown distance of 293 meters. The touchdown speed was slightly above the target speed at 147 knots, while the touchdown rate was firm at -355 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather conditions were a temperature of 11°C and a wind speed of 5 knots at 0°.
The total landing distance was 1,017 meters, which accounted for 30% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at LTAI Antalya International Airport, achieving a high score of 98.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the south, heading 6.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,250 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 36R, which has a length of 3,411 meters.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 146 kt, coming in at 147 kt. Despite this minor deviation, the touchdown distance was good, measuring 293 meters. The touchdown speed of 142 kt was a little fast, but the firm touchdown rate of -355 feet per minute (fpm) suggests that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact smoothly.
The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 11°C and a wind speed of 5 kt at 0°. The crosswind was minimal at 1 kt, and the headwind was 5 kt, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing. The total landing distance was 1,017 meters, which is 30% of the runway length. This indicates that the aircraft was able to stop quickly and efficiently after touchdown.
The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was able to maintain its direction and speed after touchdown. Overall, the landing was executed with precision and control, and the aircraft was able to stop safely within a short distance. The high score of 98.4% reflects the pilot's skill and expertise in executing a safe and efficient landing.
