Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,188 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 408 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport's runway 24R, the Airbus A320 initiated its takeoff roll, covering 2,367 meters of the 3,700-meter runway before lifting off at a speed of 164 knots. The aircraft's takeoff distance accounted for 64% of the available runway length, a testament to its efficient performance. As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered a local temperature of 30 degrees Celsius.
The enroute climb phase began overhead Tamuning, where the aircraft transitioned from a low altitude of 1,170 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 36,011 feet, a vertical gain of 34,840 feet in 25 minutes. This climb phase covered a distance of 173 nautical miles, setting the stage for a long-range cruise. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, lasting 55 minutes and covering 428 nautical miles, before beginning its descent towards Babelthuap Airport. The descent phase, which started 89 miles northeast of Mengellang, saw the aircraft decrease its altitude from 36,004 feet to 1,799 feet in 19 minutes, covering 116 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Babelthuap Airport, it entered a final approach phase, aligning itself with runway 09 from the west. The aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 136 knots, with a touchdown distance of 408 meters, accounting for 57% of the available runway length. The touchdown rate was firm at -375 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. Following a smooth rollout, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, completing a total flight distance of 737 nautical miles in 116 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 4,741 kilograms.
The final approach to runway 09 at PTRO Babelthuap Airport from the west was executed with a heading of 91.0° at 4 nm and 1,343 ft above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with the threshold height at 63 ft agl being above the target. However, the threshold speed was well within the acceptable range at 140 kt, indicating a good control of the aircraft's descent and speed.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown distance was good at 408 m, and the touchdown speed at 136 kt was a little fast. The firm touchdown rate of -375 fpm suggested a controlled impact, but slightly above the ideal rate. Notwithstanding this, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating precise control of the aircraft's descent and alignment with the runway centerline. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 25 °C, did not appear to have any significant impact on the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,243 m, which accounted for 57% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the critical phase of rollout. Overall, the landing was scored 93.7%, reflecting a high level of proficiency and control throughout the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
