Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 12,289 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,000 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 13 at KHRL Valley International Airport. The takeoff distance was 4,030 feet, which accounted for 55% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 144 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 170 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south east of KHRL Valley International Airport. The climb took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 107 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,071 feet above sea level to 35,506 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,435 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile south west of Morgan Farm Colonia. This phase lasted for 7 minutes and covered a distance of 49 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 9 miles north of Three Rivers. The descent took 20 minutes and covered a distance of 89 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 35,527 feet above sea level to 3,146 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,381 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 3 miles north west of Niederwald. This phase lasted for 4 minutes and covered a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 36L at KAUS Austin Bergstrom International Airport, approaching from the south at a heading of 358.0 degrees. The aircraft was at an altitude of 1,266 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 36L was successful, with a touchdown point 632 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was slightly above the target speed at 138 knots, but the touchdown rate was excellent at -56 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also excellent. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 320 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 4,212 feet, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 8 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 259 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 65 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 5,658 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at KAUS Austin Bergstrom International Airport, achieving a score of 97.2%. The final approach to runway 36L was initiated from the south, with the aircraft heading 358.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,266 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being satisfactory. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 138 kt, indicating a slight deviation from the optimal landing speed. The touchdown point was located 632 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may be considered a minor deviation.
The touchdown speed of 128 kt was slightly faster than the ideal speed, but the touchdown rate of -56 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 75°F and a wind speed of 4 kt from 320°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 kt, while the headwind component was also 3 kt, resulting in a negligible effect on the landing.
The total landing distance of 4,212 feet was 34% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 97.2%. The minor deviations in threshold speed and touchdown speed were compensated by the excellent touchdown rate and runway alignment, resulting in a smooth and controlled landing.
