Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,371 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,371 ft of the 11,173 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,808 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A330-900 taxied from the parking area to runway 03L at GCLP Gran Canaria Airport in 5 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 03L, the aircraft used a takeoff distance of 3,843 ft, representing 38 % of the runway, and lifted off at 162 kt; local weather reported a temperature of 83 °F, wind 12 kt at 359°, with a 4 kt crosswind and an 11 kt headwind.
Climb commenced overhead GCLP, with the airplane ascending from 1,021 ft asl to 39,817 ft asl, an increase of 38,796 ft achieved in 27 minutes while covering 194 nm.
Level cruise began 68 miles north-east of Caleta de Sebo and continued for 264 minutes, during which the flight covered 2,180 nm.
Descent started 10 miles north-east of Rodos, descending from 39,918 ft asl to 1,379 ft asl, a loss of 38,539 ft in 28 minutes and spanning 156 nm.
The final approach to runway 36R at LTAI Antalya International Airport was executed from the south, on a heading of 5.0°, at 4 nm and 1,204 ft agl.
Landing on runway 36R, which is 11,173 ft long, occurred with a threshold speed of 141 kt; touchdown was 445 ft beyond the touchdown zone at 136 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 185 fpm and a lateral deviation of 11 ft from the centreline. Weather at the time was temperature 83 °F, wind 4 kt at 330°, with a 2 kt crosswind and a 3 kt headwind. The total landing distance measured 5,108 ft, representing 46 % of the runway.
Runway rollout alignment was reported as very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 3 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 2,538 nm, took 328, and consumed 56,498 lbs of fuel.
The Airbus A330-900 executed a final approach to runway 36R at LTAI Antalya International Airport from the south, maintaining a heading of 5.0 ° at 4 nm and 1,204 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits.
At the threshold the runway length was 11,173 ft and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was slightly above target at 141 kt.
Touchdown occurred 445 ft beyond the touchdown zone with a touchdown speed of 136 kt, noted as a little fast. The touchdown rate was good at minus 185 fpm and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 11 ft from centreline. Local weather was temperature 83 °F, wind 4 kt from 330 °, with a 2 kt crosswind component and a 3 kt headwind component.
The total landing distance was 5,108 ft, representing 46 % of the runway, and rollout alignment was very good.
Minor refinements should focus on reducing the threshold and touchdown speeds to the target values, which will help place the touchdown within the designated zone and improve lateral alignment. Maintaining the aim point near the centre of the touchdown zone will preserve the ample runway margin demonstrated by the 46 % usage.
