Work on the flare
See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,795 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 615 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Hannover Airport, the Airbus A320 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. As it reached the runway, the aircraft started its departure roll on runway 27R, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 156 knots. The takeoff distance of 1,175 meters was 37% of the runway length, and the aircraft lifted off into the local weather conditions, which featured a temperature of 9°C and a headwind of 8 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from Hannover, it began its enroute climb, reaching an altitude of 17,008 feet above sea level in just 10 minutes, covering a distance of 49 nautical miles. The climb was characterized by a significant increase in altitude, with the aircraft rising by 15,819 feet. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, maintaining an altitude of 17,008 feet for 10 minutes as it covered a distance of 71 nautical miles. The cruise phase was followed by a descent, which began 1 mile north east of Bad Salzschlirf and saw the aircraft descend from 17,021 feet to 1,834 feet above sea level in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 54 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Frankfurt Airport, it began its final approach to runway 25R, aligning itself with the runway from the east. The landing was characterized by a threshold height that was well above target, but a threshold speed that was good at 138 knots. The touchdown point was 202 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 133 knots. The touchdown rate was heavy at -694 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was very good. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The total flight distance was 186 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 2,087 kilograms of fuel during the journey, which lasted a total of 57 minutes.
The final approach to runway 25R at EDDF Frankfurt Airport from the east, heading 250.0° at 4 nm and 1,482 ft above ground level (agl), was initiated with a satisfactory approach quality. The aircraft maintained a steady descent, with the threshold height at 71 ft agl being well above the target, indicating a good visual reference for the pilots. The threshold speed of 138 kt was within the acceptable range, demonstrating a well-executed approach configuration.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown point was 202 m beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-run. The touchdown speed of 133 kt was a little fast, and the touchdown rate of -694 fpm was heavy, suggesting a possible hard landing. However, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well-centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 7 °C and a light headwind of 3 kt, contributed to a relatively stable approach.
The aircraft's rollout was smooth, with perfect alignment on the runway centerline. The total landing distance of 1,310 m, which accounted for 47% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 88.4%. While there were some minor deviations from the ideal touchdown characteristics, the pilots demonstrated good control and adherence to standard operating procedures, resulting in a safe and controlled landing.
