Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,436 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 321 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-900, then departed from runway 03 at CYYG Charlottetown Airport. The takeoff distance was 157 meters, which accounted for 7% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 154 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 14°C and a wind speed of 4 knots at 0°.
As the aircraft climbed, it started 2 miles north of CYYG Charlottetown Airport and reached an altitude of 33,445 feet above sea level, increasing by 32,315 feet in 26 minutes and covering 153 nautical miles. The enroute climb was followed by a level cruise that started 12 miles northwest of Digby, Nova Scotia, and lasted for 141 minutes, covering 1,150 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its descent 1 mile southeast of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, and descended from 34,184 feet to 2,881 feet in 12 minutes, covering 153 nautical miles. The descent was followed by a brief level cruise that started 3 miles northeast of 41MO Textor Airport Willard, Missouri, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 6 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 14 at KSGF Springfield Branson National Airport was made from the northwest, heading 142.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,283 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 320 meters and a touchdown speed of 139 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -255 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14°C and a wind speed of 4 knots at 0°, with a crosswind of 2 knots and a tailwind of 3 knots. The total landing distance was 943 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. After landing, the aircraft took 2 minutes to taxi to the parking, covering less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 1,470 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 190 minutes. The aircraft used 12,559 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-900 aircraft successfully landed at KSGF Springfield Branson National Airport, achieving a high score of 99.6%. The final approach to runway 14 was conducted from the northwest, with a heading of 142.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level.
The aircraft's approach and landing performance were satisfactory, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 145 knots. The touchdown distance of 320 meters was also within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 139 knots was slightly higher than the desired speed, indicating that the pilot may have needed to apply more braking force upon touchdown.
The aircraft's descent rate was fair, at -255 feet per minute, which is a moderate rate of descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable and controlled approach. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 14°C and a wind speed of 4 knots at 0°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and a slight tailwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance of 943 meters was 39% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft during the approach and landing phases.
