Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,110 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,110 ft of the 8,012 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,415 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in the Airbus A321 from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (KCLT) to Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (TJSJ) was smooth and efficient.
The departure from KCLT involved a short taxi to the runway, followed by a takeoff from runway 36R. The takeoff distance was 5,186 ft, with a liftoff speed of 153 knots. The weather conditions at the time of departure included a temperature of 64°F and light winds.
The enroute climb was steady, starting northeast of KCLT and reaching an altitude of 34,264 ft, covering a distance of 138 nm in 23 minutes. The level cruise phase lasted 100 minutes, covering 973 nm at an altitude of 34,264 ft.
The descent began south of Puerto Rico, descending from 34,958 ft to 24,008 ft in 7 minutes, covering 54 nm. Another brief level cruise phase followed, covering 18 nm in 2 minutes. The final descent towards TJSJ involved a decrease from 23,908 ft to 1,182 ft over 21 minutes, covering 111 nm.
The final approach to runway 10 at TJSJ was executed well, with a touchdown slightly beyond the designated zone at a speed of 130 knots. The landing was smooth, with a touchdown rate of -185 ft/m. The landing distance was 4,844 ft, utilizing 60% of the runway.
Overall, the flight covered a total distance of 1,303 nm in 172 minutes, using 20,431 lbs of fuel. The entire journey was completed without any significant issues, demonstrating the efficiency and reliability of the Airbus A321 aircraft.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at TJSJ Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, achieving a high score of 95.6%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 91.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,161 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 10, which has a length of 8,012 feet.
The threshold height at 58 feet agl was slightly above the target, indicating a minor deviation from the ideal landing height. However, the threshold speed of 144 knots was also slightly above the target, suggesting that the aircraft was slightly faster than desired during the final approach. Despite these minor deviations, the touchdown speed of 130 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -185 feet per minute (fpm) was also good.
The touchdown point was located 1,049 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. However, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. The crosswind component was negligible, and the tailwind component was minimal at 1 knot.
The total landing distance of 4,844 feet was 60% of the runway length, which is a relatively long distance. Nevertheless, the runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed safely on the runway.
