Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,245 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 581 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at London Gatwick Airport, taking approximately 6 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 26L, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 155 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 21°C, with a wind speed of 23 knots at a direction of 20°.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered a crosswind of 19 knots and a tailwind of 12 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Charlwood, Surrey, England, where the aircraft ascended from 1,215 feet above sea level to 3,883 feet above sea level, an increase of 2,668 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, starting 1 mile south east of Ockley, Surrey, England, and lasting for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. This was followed by another climb phase, starting overhead Slinfold, West Sussex, England, where the aircraft ascended from 3,971 feet above sea level to 5,644 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,673 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting overhead Cowfold, West Sussex, England, and lasting for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 16 nautical miles. This was followed by a significant climb phase, starting 1 mile north west of Newhaven, East Sussex, England, where the aircraft ascended from 5,958 feet above sea level to 33,225 feet above sea level, an increase of 27,268 feet in 13 minutes, covering a distance of 80 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a long level cruise phase, starting 2 miles south of Rogerville, Normandie, France, and lasting for 52 minutes, covering a distance of 377 nautical miles. As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent phase, starting overhead Salsigne, Occitanie, France, where it descended from 32,955 feet above sea level to 1,713 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,241 feet in 27 minutes, covering a distance of 92 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 01 at Girona-Costa Brava Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading at 16.0° and 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on runway 01, which had a length of 2,245 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 23°C, with a wind speed of 9 knots at a direction of 50°.
The touchdown point was 156 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 112 knots and a touchdown rate of -47 feet per minute, both of which were considered good. The runway touchdown alignment was also perfect. The total landing distance was 1,151 meters, which was 51% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking area, taking approximately 3 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 587 nautical miles, taking a total of 109 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,679 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at Girona-Costa Brava Airport, achieving a high score of 98.2%. The final approach to runway 01 was conducted from the south, with a heading of 16.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,268 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 125 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 156 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 112 knots, which was within the acceptable range. The touchdown rate was impressive, with a perfect rate of -47 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 23°C and a wind speed of 9 knots at a direction of 50°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots. These conditions did not appear to have any significant impact on the landing.
The total landing distance was 1,151 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was properly configured and controlled during the approach and landing phases. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was a success, with the aircraft achieving a high score and demonstrating good control and handling during the approach and landing phases.
