Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,890 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,890 m of the 3,658 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 939 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A350-1000, then departed from runway 34 at OLBA Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,025 meters, which accounted for 32% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 26 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 340 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 6 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile north of OLBA Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport. The climb took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 55 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,149 feet above sea level to 29,699 feet above sea level, an increase of 28,551 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 2 miles northwest of OSDI Damascus International Airport. This phase lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 30 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 6 miles northwest of Shahba. The descent took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 75 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 29,732 feet above sea level to 3,686 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,046 feet.
The final approach to runway 26R at OJAI Queen Alia International Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 260.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 26R, which had a length of 3,658 meters. The threshold height was well above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 144 knots.
The touchdown point was 524 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 140 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -197 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 280 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 6 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,810 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 169 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 48 minutes. The aircraft used 6,123 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A350-1000 successfully landed at OJAI Queen Alia International Airport, with a final approach score of 86.6%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the east, heading 260.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,283 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was conducted on runway 26R, which has a length of 3,658 meters.
Upon reaching the threshold, the aircraft was at an altitude of 73 feet agl, which was slightly above the target height. The threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 144 knots. Despite these minor deviations, the touchdown point was 524 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-shoot. The touchdown speed of 140 knots was a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -197 feet per minute (fpm) was good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 21°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from 280°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 6 knots, which did not significantly impact the landing. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The total landing distance was 1,810 meters, which is 49% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with only minor deviations from the target parameters. The aircraft's performance was good, and the landing was conducted safely and efficiently.
