Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,809 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,809 m of the 2,432 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 596 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 16L at KSLC Salt Lake City International Airport. The takeoff distance was 2,296 meters, which accounted for 63% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 164 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 43 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 28 knots from a direction of 220 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 19 knots and a headwind of 19 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south of KSLC Salt Lake City International Airport. The climb took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 131 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 5,256 feet above sea level to 36,057 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,802 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 2 miles south of Rock Springs, Wyoming. This phase lasted for 29 minutes and covered a distance of 618 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 7 miles east of Marshall, Minnesota. The descent took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 109 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 35,246 feet above sea level to 2,102 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,144 feet.
The final approach to runway 30R at KMSP Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport was made from the southeast, heading 301.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,258 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 30R, which had a length of 2,432 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 143 knots.
The touchdown point was 185 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 136 knots. However, the touchdown rate was smooth at -145 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.5 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 170 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 7 knots and a tailwind of 6 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,734 meters, which accounted for 71% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 869 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 76 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 5,882 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at KMSP Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, achieving a high score of 98.2%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southeast, heading 301.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,258 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed smoothly, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 143 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 185 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the expected area. The touchdown speed of 136 knots was a bit faster than ideal, but the touchdown rate was smooth at -145 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 3.5 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the slightly longer than expected landing distance.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 31°C and a wind speed of 9 knots from 170°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the tailwind component was 6 knots. Despite these conditions, the aircraft's landing distance of 1,734 meters was 71% of the available runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll.
The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively to bring the plane to a stop. Overall, the landing was executed well, with the aircraft's systems and the pilot's skills working together to achieve a safe and efficient touchdown.
