Improve the taxi
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 500 ft gate: off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,842 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 224 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 18 at YMAV Avalon Airport in the state of Victoria, Australia. The takeoff distance was 963 meters, which accounted for 32% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 152 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Avalon Airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 19°C temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots at 170 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was 6 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile south of the airport and continued for 43 minutes, covering a distance of 342 nautical miles. The aircraft climbed from an initial altitude of 1,099 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 39,109 feet.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft began its level cruise 97 miles southeast of YGBO Gabo Island Airport in Mallacoota, Victoria, Australia. This phase of the flight lasted for 140 minutes and covered a distance of 1,020 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 41 miles northwest of New Plymouth in Taranaki, New Zealand. The descent from 38,930 feet to 1,536 feet took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 135 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 36 at NZRO Rotorua Regional Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 17.0 degrees at 2 nautical miles and 584 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 36 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 222 meters, which was 38% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 120 knots, and the touchdown rate was -174 feet per minute. Although the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centerline, the runway rollout alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 17°C temperature and a wind speed of 0 knots at 336 degrees. The crosswind was 0 knots, and the headwind was 0 knots. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took less than 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,500 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 191 minutes. The aircraft used 7,434 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at NZRO Rotorua Regional Airport, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in its approach and landing procedures. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the south, heading 17.0° at an altitude of 584 feet above ground level (agl) and 2 nautical miles from the runway threshold.
The pilot's final approach to runway 36 was executed with precision, achieving a score of 98.9%. The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. The threshold speed of 125 knots was also satisfactory, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the approach.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown distance of 222 meters and a touchdown speed of 120 knots. The touchdown rate of -174 feet per minute was also within acceptable limits, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centerline, which may require some adjustment in the pilot's approach procedure.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 17°C and a wind speed of 0 knots from 336°. This resulted in a crosswind and headwind of 0 knots, making the landing even more challenging and requiring the pilot to demonstrate exceptional skills.
The total landing distance of 704 meters was 38% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and bring it to a stop safely.
Overall, the landing of the Boeing 737-700 at NZRO Rotorua Regional Airport was a success, demonstrating the pilot's ability to execute a precise and controlled approach and landing.
