MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,712 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 586 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (KMSP). This process took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 17, with the aircraft taking off after covering 64% of the runway's length. The takeoff distance was 1,559 meters, and the liftoff speed was 160 knots.
As the aircraft climbed into the air, it encountered local weather conditions of 19°C temperature and winds of 9 knots at 70 degrees. The crosswind was 8 knots, while the tailwind was 1 knot. The enroute climb started 1 mile south of KMSP and took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,874 feet above sea level to 35,830 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,957 feet in 13 minutes. This climb covered a distance of 136 nautical miles.
After reaching cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 3 miles southwest of Adrian, Minnesota. This phase lasted for 38 minutes and covered a distance of 1,065 nautical miles. The enroute descent began 8 miles northeast of Ludlow Airport (5CA4) in California and took the aircraft from an altitude of 36,450 feet above sea level to 1,086 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,365 feet in 18 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 125 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 24R at Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX) took place from the east, with the aircraft heading 263.0 degrees at an altitude of 954 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on runway 24R, which was 2,712 meters long. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was 140 knots.
The touchdown point was 167 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 132 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -212 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions were 20°C temperature and winds of 20 knots at 260 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 19 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,373 meters, which was 51% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking area, taking 2 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,334 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 79 minutes. The aircraft used 7,751 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX) on runway 24R, achieving a high score of 97.6%. The final approach was conducted from the east, heading 263.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 954 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, indicating a stable and controlled descent.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed at a speed of 140 knots, which was within the acceptable threshold speed range. The touchdown point was located 167 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the ideal spot but still within a reasonable margin. The touchdown speed of 132 knots was also within the acceptable range, indicating a smooth and controlled landing.
However, the touchdown rate of -212 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a slightly higher-than-desired rate of descent during the final stages of the landing. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 20 knots from a direction of 260°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was significant at 19 knots. These conditions would have required the pilot to make adjustments to the approach and landing to compensate for the wind.
The total landing distance of 1,373 meters was 51% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft was able to come to a stop within a reasonable distance from the runway threshold. However, there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown rate and touchdown point accuracy.
