Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 995 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 995 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 218 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna Skyhawk, then departed from runway 05 at EDLA Arnsberg-Menden Airfield. The takeoff distance was 162 meters, which accounted for 18% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 52 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 16 knots from a direction of 338 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 15 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb after departing the airfield, rising from an altitude of 1,390 feet above sea level to 1,807 feet above sea level in just 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The enroute level cruise phase started approximately 1 mile north-east of EDLA Arnsberg-Menden Airfield and lasted for 103 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 124 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 2 miles south-west of Osteel, Germany. The descent from 2,011 feet above sea level to 622 feet above sea level took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 5 nautical miles.
Following the descent, the aircraft entered another level cruise phase, this time starting 1 mile north of Norden, Germany, and lasting for 6 minutes, during which it covered a distance of 6 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 26 at EDWY Norderney Airport was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 267.0 degrees at an altitude of 1 nautical mile and 131 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 26 was successful, with the touchdown distance being good at 215 meters. The touchdown speed was 54 knots, which was within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -261 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 8.9 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as those at takeoff.
The total landing distance was 500 meters, which accounted for 50% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centreline by 8.8 meters. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took less than 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 138 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 120 minutes. The aircraft used 41 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna Skyhawk successfully landed at EDWY Norderney Airport, achieving a score of 93.6%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 267.0° at 1 nautical mile and 131 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, taking into account the local weather conditions, which included a temperature of 16°C and wind speeds of 16 kt at 338°.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 26, which has a length of 995 meters. The threshold height was good, indicating that the pilot maintained a safe altitude before touchdown. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target speed of 57 kt, which may have been due to the pilot's cautious approach. The touchdown distance of 215 meters was good, and the touchdown speed of 54 kt was also within acceptable limits.
Despite the good touchdown speed, the touchdown rate of -261 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair. This may indicate that the pilot could have maintained a more gradual descent rate, which would have resulted in a smoother touchdown. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.9 meters from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's approach.
The total landing distance of 500 meters was 50% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.8 meters from the centreline, which may have been due to the pilot's difficulty in maintaining a straight course during the rollout phase.
Overall, the pilot demonstrated good control and precision during the landing, but there were some minor deviations from the ideal performance. With some adjustments to the approach and rollout phases, the pilot could have achieved an even higher score.
