Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 7,686 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 7,686 ft of the 11,464 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 3,860 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was a remarkable journey that took the Concorde aircraft from Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow, Russia to Vladivostok International Airport in Russia. The aircraft began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a distance of 2 nautical miles that took 9 minutes to cover.
As the Concorde took off from runway 06R at Sheremetyevo International Airport, it reached a liftoff speed of 209 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 93°F and a wind speed of 5 knots at 150°. The aircraft's takeoff distance was 8,221 feet, which was 68% of the runway length.
The enroute climb started 1 mile south of Lobnya, Moscow Oblast, Russia, where the aircraft climbed from 1,624 feet above sea level to 60,884 feet above sea level, an increase of 59,260 feet in 34 minutes. The climb covered a distance of 414 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 14 miles northwest of Kirov, Kirov Oblast, Russia, and lasted for 104 minutes, covering a distance of 2,023 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 61,697 feet above sea level to 61,079 feet above sea level, a decrease of 618 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 28 nautical miles.
The flight continued with several enroute climbs and descents, each with varying altitudes and distances covered. The aircraft climbed from 61,096 feet above sea level to 61,914 feet above sea level, an increase of 818 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 29 nautical miles. It then entered a level cruise from 23 miles southeast of Bagdarin Airport, lasting 17 minutes and covering 276 nautical miles.
The flight continued with several more enroute climbs and descents, each with varying altitudes and distances covered. The aircraft climbed from 62,934 feet above sea level to 63,515 feet above sea level, an increase of 581 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 30 nautical miles. It then entered a level cruise from 34 miles west of Genhe, lasting 2 minutes and covering 30 nautical miles.
The flight continued with several more enroute climbs and descents, each with varying altitudes and distances covered. The aircraft climbed from 63,937 feet above sea level to 65,063 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,126 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 30 nautical miles. It then began its descent from 65,183 feet above sea level to 62,921 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,262 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 30 nautical miles.
The flight continued with several more enroute climbs and descents, each with varying altitudes and distances covered. The aircraft entered a level cruise from 7 miles south of Simuke, lasting 13 minutes and covering 264 nautical miles. It then began its descent from 63,189 feet above sea level to 43,109 feet above sea level, a decrease of 20,079 feet in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 117 nautical miles.
The flight continued with several more enroute climbs and descents, each with varying altitudes and distances covered. The aircraft entered a level cruise from 39 miles south of Yilan, lasting 29 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. It then began its descent from 43,109 feet above sea level to 11,640 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,469 feet in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 131
The Concorde aircraft successfully landed at UHWW Vladivostok International Airport on runway 25L, achieving a score of 85.3%. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 245.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,282 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 178 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 2,537 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the expected area. The touchdown speed of 162 knots was a bit faster than desired, but the touchdown rate was smooth at -146 feet per minute (fpm). However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 35 feet from the centreline, indicating a slight deviation from the intended path.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 68°F and a gentle wind of 7 knots at 190°. The crosswind was minimal at 5 knots, and the headwind was 4 knots, which did not significantly impact the landing. The total landing distance of 7,463 feet was 65% of the runway length, indicating a relatively smooth and controlled descent.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly off-centre by 37 feet from the centreline, which may have been a result of the initial touchdown misalignment. Despite this, the landing was considered successful, and the Concorde aircraft was able to come to a stop within a reasonable distance. Overall, the landing was satisfactory, but there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown speed and alignment.
