Departure
Use smaller, smoother aileron inputs to hold the climb bank angle near wings-level.
What happened: During Climb 3 the bank angle averaged 4.6°, well beyond a steady wings-level climb.
Watch for: Attitude indicator - bank angle, keeping it close to wings-level through the climb.
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 500 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,449 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 529 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna Longitude, then departed from runway 14R at KBFI Boeing Field King County International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,367 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 144 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 8 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 229 degrees. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the headwind component was 0 knots. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile northeast of Riverton, Washington. The climb was from an altitude of 1,033 feet above sea level to 40,888 feet above sea level, an increase of 39,855 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 127 nautical miles.
After completing the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 2 miles northeast of Moses Lake Municipal Airport in Moses Lake, Washington. This phase lasted for 241 minutes, covering a distance of 2,107 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 10 miles southwest of Venice, Florida. The descent was from an altitude of 41,008 feet above sea level to 1,265 feet above sea level, a decrease of 39,743 feet in 25 minutes, covering a distance of 148 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 09 at KMIA Miami International Airport was made from the west, heading 86.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,239 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 09, which had a length of 3,449 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was too high at 138 knots. The touchdown point was 107 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 119 knots, which was fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -359 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.7 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 22 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 122 degrees. The crosswind component was 2 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. The total landing distance was 829 meters, which accounted for 24% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.0 meters from the centerline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took less than 1 minute and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 2,391 nautical miles, and the total flight time was 293 minutes. The aircraft used 3,269 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna Longitude successfully landed at KMIA Miami International Airport, achieving a score of 89.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 86.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,239 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 09, which has a length of 3,449 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 107 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating that the threshold speed was too high at 138 knots. The touchdown speed of 119 knots was also faster than ideal, resulting in a firm touchdown rate of -359 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 3.7 meters, which may have contributed to the slightly off-center touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 22°C and a light wind of 3 knots from 122°. The crosswind and headwind components were minimal, at 2 knots each. The total landing distance of 829 meters was 24% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly off-center by 9.0 meters from the centerline. This may have been a result of the initial touchdown misalignment or other factors affecting the aircraft's directional control during the rollout. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of threshold speed and touchdown speed.
